Eon didn't like to think of that day. When Dark lost control. But he could remember the look on her face, very clearly- or her sister's, in this case. He pictured it for a second before banishing the thought, flinching once more.
"I'm sorry." Dark stared at him, her eyes apologetic. "I shouldn't bring that up."
This took him by surprise- he only stared back at her, nodding once. They looked at eachother and minutes went by.
"Shall we move on?" She spoke softly, breaking the tense silence. He jumped slightly and nodded once more, walking alongside her. They walked for another few minutes before Eon stopped, again.
"Where are we going?" He blinked, looking at Dark ,who hadn't stopped walking.
"Town isn't an option, and I don't think we can get to the next one before nightfall. So how about the lake?" She didn't look at him as she kept walking, brushing her hand along trees as she passed.
Eon opened his mouth, then shut it, not finding the right words, before running to catch up with Dark. He wondered why she would go to the lake. She couldn't swim... Right?
Dark hummed quietly as they continued on, the forest getting thinner and the sun getting brighter.
"I'd wish we brought some food. Great day for a picnic?" He spoke slowly, the silence getting more awkward each time. She just shrugged and nodded, not looking at him again.
They were soon at the lake front - a large, bright clearing. Eon smiled and looked at Dark, who seemed unphased. He frowned questionably at her. "Are you okay?"
"What? Yeah... Yeah! I'm great." She smiled brightly at him, but it didn't reach her eyes, he noticed. "Just thinking..."
"Okay.." He muttered, shoving his hands in his pockets. Dark skipped and sat beneath a tree, in the shade. She continued to hum as she glanced around. She grinned, staring at the lake.
"It's so clear. I can see all the fish." She put her hand to her mouth to muffle a giggle. Eon stared at her. He felt like he was missing something. He ignored it at the time, and went to sit next to her. "Hey uhmm... Dark I.. wanted to..." He tried to say it quickly.
"Yes'm?" She stared innocently at him, her eyes troubled.
"I've been wanting to tell you... that..." He paused, looking at his hands in his lap, feeling the heat in his face. "That... I..."
She blinked, her head tilting to the side. "That you..?" She persisted, clueless.
He couldn't even think the words. He just closed his eyes and clenched his fists.
"Eon?"
"Dark I love you." He breathed, his eyes remaining tightly shut. It was completely silent. He froze up, wondering if she'd heard him. He tried to control his speeding heart, but to no avail. He was about to open his eyes.
"Oh."
He blinked, turning to stare at her, the color still bright in his cheeks. Dark was staring at the grass in front of them, but her body was turned toward him. He stared for another minute.
"'Oh'?" He repeated, lowering his head to look up at her. She just shrugged slightly, not looking to him. He noticed her face was just as pale as ever. He counted the seconds. Three minutes went by before she spoke.
"This is wrong." She whispered. His face fell slightly, his mouth open.
"Why? We can do th-"
"No, Eon. We can't. It's dangerous. You shouldn't even.. be here now.." She whispered, her head lowering.
