Part 14
"Did we get everyone to the safehouses and bunkers?" Kitko asked looking down the brick road.
"Yeah. Now we have to go after Sandina. Hopefully she's alright." Chikaru replied. "Let's go check the Pheonix Transportation area. Maybe we can get their help to get to Count Diago's castle." Chikaru and Kitko dashed out of the human city to the monster's city.
"There aren't any monsters out." Kitko said.
"I wonder why. They usually come after us by now." Chikaru said looking around.
"Maybe it's because of the Blood Festival."
"Blood Festival?"
"You didn't know Chikaru? The Blood Festival is when all kinda of monsters get together and kill humans. It a huge thing. The party inside during the day and then at night they open the streets for venders and games. All the monsters participate in it because its the most popular event out of the year. The biggest night is the harvest moon night."
"What do they do then?"
"Well last year we heard they sprayed human blood out all over the crowd and they rip apart live humans. Our spy threw up and ran. Poor guy... I feel bad that he had to see all of that."
"Sounds like a horrible holiday."
"Yep. Its nasty for us, but all the monsters love it. Latly its been strange though."
"How so?"
"Well usually the attack rate goes up because the monsters are preparing for the festival, but oddly enough there haven't been more than 20 attacks in the past month."
"That is weird. I remember last year over 400 people went missing or were killed."
"Well, here we are." Kitko said stopping in front of a giant blue building. "This is the place. Pheonix Transportation, for all your traveling needs, think Pheonix."
"Kitko... you did that way too well."
"I've heard them say it too much not to say it well." Ktiko chuckled.
"We better stay on our guard though. Even if these guys don't choose sides we should be ready for anything." Chikaru slowly opened the sleek wooden door and a bell rung over their heads. "Hello?"
"Wow, this place looks deserted." Kitko said walking up to the front desk.
"Well if it ain't Kitko and Chikaru. I thought I already dropped you two off back at the human city." Strife said opening a side door.
"Hi Strife. We're here cause we need to Count Diago's castle." Chikaru said.
"Sandina got caught and you're going to try and save her right?" Strife said going behind the front desk.
"How'd you know?" Kitko asked.
"Simple. Your teachers came in here earlier today and demanded someone fly them over there. We agreed, but the vampires told us once we got there that our services were no longer needed. They said they took care of the humans."
"So basically you dropped our teachers of and now they're dead." Kitko said with a gulp.
"Yes, apparently they've been dead for the past 6 hours. I doubt your friend Sandina is alive. My father said when he talked to Count Diago that he had special plans for her during the Blood Festival."
"Strife. Can you get us there or not?" Chikaru asked.
"Yes and no. I can only take you half-way. My mother and father want me working here to prepare for the Blood Festival."
"Can any other pheonix take us the full trip?" Kitko asked.
"Nope, everyone else has the week off for the Blood Festival. You humans sure do not know monster holidays that well."
"We'll have to deal with half way. We can run the rest." Chikaru said. "Can we leave now while the sun is still up?"
"Sure. But are you sure you want to leave four hours before sunset? That's dangerous for humans to be out that late." Strife said.
"Yes. We're sure." Kitko said.
"Fine then. Follow me out back and we'll get moving." Chikaru and Kitko followed Strife out the back door to a platform. "Get on and hold on tight." Strife screeched. Kitko and Chikaru hopped aboard and Strife took off into the sky.
Sandina grabbed her hair-tie and pulled it out of her hair. "I knew that Kitko's present would come in handy." Sandina pushed a button in the hair-tie and a pin came out. "Thank you Kitko." Sandina picked the locks and fell to the ground. "Alright. At least this time I landed on my feet. Now just to bust outta here." Sandina yanked and kicked the steel door, but it wouldn't budge. "I'll have to do this the hard way." Sandina pulled the bolt hinges out with her lightning and slowly opened the door. Where to go next." Sandina found a vampire's cloak hanging on the wall. "This might be useful to hide my scent." Sandina slipped the cloak over her body and put the hood up.
Keto lit a candle and was walking towards the cell they had Sandina trapped in. "That stubborn wench. Why does she refuse everything we tell her to do? My father had to have four werewolves flog her for her insubordinance." Keto stopped in shock when he saw the cell door open. "What the hell?! How did she get out?!"
Part 15
Keto dropped the candle and ran inside the cell. "She isn't anywhere in here." Keto found the bent pin and picked it up. "I see. She used this pin to get out."
"So you lost the prisoner again little brother." Nichu said leaning on the cell entrance.
"Shut up Nichu. You wouldn't have been able to stop her either."
"Poor little brother. You're so weak. Father will not be pleased to find out the you failed him, again."
"Shut up you pathetic excuse for a bat. Sandina will not be able to get far. If we came down this way then she went down this way." Keto said pointing down the concrete corridor.
"If I were you I wouldn't want father finding out how you miserably lost her."
"That's the thing. I'm not you."
"Then what do you plan to do little brother? You can't possibly track her scent if she is here during the Blood Fest. Her scent is too well blended with the other human scents."
"You may be right baout the scent trail, but I had a cloak hanging here earlier. It is one of a kind so I will have no trouble picking her out of a crowd." Keto said flying down the hall.
Sandina jumped from one set of steps to another. "This is nuts. I may not have the best sense of smell, but this place reaks of human blood. Its disgusting." Sandina opened a door and found a room filled with vampires. "Oh crud." Sandina thought. But the vampires didn't notice her. "Of course, I smell like all the other blood. They probably think I drank too much human blood so they're ignoring me. Sweet." Sandina held herself high and walked across the room. A drunken vampire slung his arm around her and was rolling with laughter.
"Hey baby, you've been drinking too much human blood. You're starting to smell like one. Why don't you stay off the weak stuff and join us with some brandy."
"No thanks. I have a... I have to meet my brother for the... the... blood decorations. We forgot some of the decorations so we're going off to put them up." Sandina slipped away from him and shut the door tight behind her.
"That was strange. I could've sworn I heard a heartbeat with that vampire." the drunken vampire said as he flopped onto the leather chair.
"That was way too close for comfort." Sandina said with a relaxing sigh. Sandina turned the corner and Candy stood in front of her.
"Oh, I'm sorry." Candy said. Sandina didn't say anything. She tried to slip by Candy but Candy would step in front of her. "You don't look familliar, are you new here? You smell like you've been drinking too much." Sandina slipped by Candy and dashed down teh hallway. "I wonder why she smelt so much like that Sandina character in the prison. Unless." Candy ran towards the dungeon and ran into Keto. "What are you two doing here?"
"I was about to ask you the same thing." Keto said.
"I came to check if our battery was still in the socket. We cannot afford having her turn into a vampire." Candy said.
"Why do you say that? Did you see her?" Keto asked.
"I thought I smelt her. This one vampire that saw me was trying to avoid me like it was trying to hide something."
"You two are so dense. That girl escaped from Keto and now it escaped from you too Candy." Nichu said.
"You lost her?!" Candy shouted.
"It wasn't my fault. She broke out using a pin." Keto said.
"Fine. I guess we'll have to split up and look for her. I'll head to the west wing. Keto you check the eat wing. Nichu, how about you check the north wing. She'd try to find the simpliest way to get away. She wouldn't risk going through the northern wing past all those vampires." Candy said. The three vampires split up in search for Sandina.
"This is crazy. Stairs, hallways, rooms. Where is the way out of this stupid castle?" Sandina thought. Sandina sharply turned a corridor and Nichu grabbed her.
"So you were here in the southern wing of the castle." Nichu said slamming Sandina against the wall. "Father will be pleased to know how I captured you again."
"Technically I haven't left so I'm not technically gone." Sandina said kicking Nichu across his face. She raced down the hallway and Nichu flew after her. "Dang, this vamp is fast." Sandina could feel nichu's breath on the back of her neck. Nichu stretched out his hands and Sandina ducked down and screeched to a stop. Nichu flew into a wall and Sandina chuckled. "You vamps aren't as smart as you think." Sandina said. She turned around and ran back down the hallway. Candy and Keto saw her and had blocked the paths to her left and to the right. Nichu was flying towards her from behind. "Five, four, three, two." Sandina ducked down and the three collided together. "One." Sandina jumped over them and ran down teh right hallway.
"Get off of me you mongrels. She's getting away!" Nichu hissed. The three of them sprung to their feet and flew side-by-side after Sandina. Sandina burst through the door to the ballroom in the northern wing. Some of the vampires stopped and looked at her. Nichu, Candy and Keto landed behind Sandina and smiled.
Sandina was in shock to see all the vampires in the room. Her hear tbegan to race. A cold sweat dripped down her face and her body began to tremble. "There... are... tons...... of vampires... everywhere." Sandina thought nervously.
"CHILDREN!" Count Diago shouted. Keto, Nichu, and Candy looked up onto the balcony and saw their father staring at them. "Why is the power source out of its cage?" Count Diago flew down in front of Sandina and Sandina took a step back. The other vampires ignored the commotion and began the festivities again. "I explicitally told you that she was not to leave that cell."
"Keto is the one who lost her in the first place father." Candy said.
"It wasn't my fault that she got loose. She used a pin to get out. Though where she got it from I wouldn't know." Keto said.
"Well if you took all her weapons away like father told you to you wouldn't be in this mess." Candy said.
"Quiet! Both of you! You two are weak and childish compared to your brother Nichu. now Nichu, explain to me why this girl is loose and why she has one of our cloaks on." Count Diago said.
"Father, she escaped using a pin. She found a cloak and managed to flee around the castle undetected because her scent was mixed with the blood of the other humans. Most of the other vampires could not detect her. We have chased her but in my genious I decided to drive her this way towards the other vampires."
"Now that's my son. Wise to bring her here." Count Diago said. While they were talking Sandina was sneaking towards the entrance. "Now where do you think you're going?" Sandina raced out the door and the moonlight shinned down upon her. She ran across the wooden bridge with Count Diago walking calmly behind her. Keto, Candy and Nichu watched their father carefully.
"If I can make it to the forest I can get out of here." Sandina thought. The ground below her feet gave way and she fell into a pit. "Ouch."
Count Diago stood at the top of the hole. "Now... are you going to behave yourself and come with me or are you going to try to resist like last time?"
"I'd rather die than serve you Count Diago!" Sandina shouted as she glared at him.
"Fine then. I'll have to do this the hard way." Count Diago jumped down into the pit and Sandina fell back. "You're coming with me whether you want to or not. You're our key and there is no way I'm losing you again like I did before."
Sandina forced herself against the pit wall. "I can't be afraid. But... my body is arguing with me." Sandina thought.
"How about I put you in my son, Nichu's care. He'd make sure that you'd never get away again." Count Diago chuckled. Count Diago flew up and patted Nichu's shoulder. "You'll do well to keep her under control my son. As for you two..." Count Diago looked at Keto and Candy. "You two will do well to learn from your older brother, especially you Keto."
Nichu soared down the hole and flew Sandina up in his choke hold. Sandina struggled to pull herself away, but nichu only flew higher and higher. "Time for you to understand that I will not be as soft as my younger brother. If you weren't the key, you'd be my dinner just like your former teacher. She's now my play thing. And once this is over. I'm going to make sure that my little brother learns how to properly turn a little wench like you into a vampire." Nichu said flying Sandina to his room in the western tower.
