WICKA
By Travis Lopez
Act 1
Scene 1
(The lights are still off except for some scary music. Moments later, like 2mins later into the music, a spot lights lands on the Narrator who is standing on the right ramp and walks to the down right stage. The music dims down till finally at 0 volume.)
Narrator: As you see, every single one of you is here because you want to see this show. You want to look at the characters and the environment, the setting, the storyline and the plot. You want to know if there is a good guy and a bad guy or a situation where there are a lot of conflicts and problems. You probably want something out of the play like a … moral. And most of all, you want to have a great time. And I guaranteed that.
In this make believe story where ogre roam around, fairies stealing teeth and wicked old grandmothers commanding people to clean 24/7. But you haven’t met someone like Wicka. Sure you heard a lot of unsuccessful villains trying to take over the kingdom and try marrying into the king family tree. But Wicka’s plan is very thought out, but you determine if he gets what he wants.
So, now I let you into the world in which Wicka lives.
(The narrator exits right ramp and the spot lights turn off. The red current opens, it is pitch black still and swamp sounds like frogs crocking, bugs flying around, some bubbles of swampy water sound start to play for 1-2mins After that the lights light up the stage. There are lots of books, vials, jars with creatures in them, a pot on a fire and some weird noise. We are inside Wicka’s hut.
Wicka enter his house, he is in his original form. He is very ugly, small and has a hunch back.)
Wicka: Very unsuccessful, yes, very yes. How could it be? They found out my plan and now I lost most of my powers. But wait, I still have some left. I need more magic. (Read out of a book.)
“Timeless hours, Timeless days, make my powers stay
You grant me providence and wishes
Help regain what was taken. (Does what it says)
A frog leg in soup in deed,
Brew it up with maple seed
Add some feather and cat fur
Wait some time till it green.
(A big cloud spurts out of the pot)
Take a cup full of it, and take a sip of recovery.” (Stop reading, Takes a drink)
Yuck, why do I follow things out of this helpless book of my mother’s? It’s no help. That is correct.
I need some wants, and wants I need. Please give me a sign of destiny! But wait. As old as I am there is someone old as me. They want what I want and that is what I need. I go into town or find a traveler and gain some powers. Excellent, but why stop there I need some more as big as the king! Ah, yes. Cleaver me, Where is that book. I need it. Indeed. (Finds a books, flips though some pages, reads out of the book)
“How to be a first class citizen within seven days.” no.
“To kill a mocking bird” I want to know how though.
“What you are doing is wrong and stupid.” It is not stupid, I am very cleaver.
“How to take powers from people helplessly traveling but you also need something else…”
That is what I need but what does it say there under that in very small print.
I do see what you mean. And I will try it.
(Exit house and lights dim out. End of scene.)
Act 1
Scene 2
(The lights come up, the red curtain is open but the 2nd one behind it is not. There are some trees. Wicka enter left ramp and stop in down center stage.)
Wicka: Just ahead is an old lady, she is very kind and gentle. She has to stop for me. Yes, indeed. (Gets on the floor and tries to act dead but gets uncomfortable every time) This rock is touching my behind. This twig is poking my head. This ant bit me! You go squish now. (An old lady enter right ramp making cross to the other side)
Old Lady: Oh my. What an ugly thing. Did it get run over by a carriage? (Wicka fake cries for help)
Oh, you look like a mushroom and an ugly bug combined. I hope some evil witch didn’t put a curse on it.
Wicka: Oh… my back. I need help getting up. (Old lady helps wicka up) Thank you. You see, I was just walking along going to the market place when a group of thugs came in and beat me up. They took my walking staff and something that I want.
Old Lady: I am going to the market place myself. We can walk together there.
Wicka: I need to rest for while, May you please stay with me, till I am able to walk again? (To self) This is what I need; if I go to town like this they sure will kill me. I need her.
Old lady: Of course.
Wicka: My name is Wicka; I travel the land to find a good area, well, you see, till my time is up, you see. I am very old, like your-self. I got winkles here, loose skin here and my teeth come out when I eat food.
Old lady: You are a very amusing Wicka.
Wicka: May I ask you some questions if you don’t mind?
Old lady: Of course, but don’t ask a very long questions or stories, your voice is eerie.
Wicka: As a child is there something that you really wanted but couldn’t get?
Old lady: Even to this day, they don’t seem to make it anymore.
Wicka: Do you know what it is?
Old lady: I can’t remember well, I get a headache when I think. So I don’t spend too much time thinking.
Wicka: I wanted to be king, but I couldn’t be that. (To self) She has to remember. If she doesn’t my plan fails, I can’t proceed to my next plan. I need more power. (To the old lady) How about something that is not to long ago? Like when you were not so young.
Old Lady: My time here is an end; I really want another thirty years. There are so many things that I haven’t gotten to, or places that I still want to go to.
Wicka: (to self) I know what she wants, it is time to know what animal/creature she wants to be and then the plan will work. Thanks to that small print in that book. (Wicked laugh.) (To the old lady) I do indeed want that too. Did you ever wanted to be an animal or a creature, if so which one? (To self) If she answers this, then I win.
Old lady: A white dove, they are my favorite animal.
Wicka: (to self) A white dove… that symbolizes as peace and hope. Yes. I have to act now or my true plan will never work. I need to rule the kingdom.
(The lights dim down close to dark; Wicka grabs the old lady to the ground. Wicka goes behind the curtain, the old lady is still there, and a prop is there, a dove. While this happens scary/thrill music occurs, smokes come out where Wicka and the old lady are at. (Either from dry ice or extinguisher to make this work)Weird/random lights flicker goes on and off around the auditorium. The lights go back up.)
Old lady: Yes! It worked it worked! (Dancing around and holding up the dove) I am sorry old lady but I am using you to get to the king. The only way to turn you back if there is someone brings peace between someone else. (Puts the dove in the old lady’s bag) Now that the spell worked, I can feel a stronger need to taking over the kingdom. Yes. Of course. I will need to become the king; it is the only way to take over the kingdom without brings up much suspension in my existence. They will follow my orders as king to get what I want, more power.
(When it says WICKA that is the old lady till end of Act 1. Wicka exits left ramp, Black light. End of Scene 2)
Act 1
Scene 3
The scene opens up in the King’s library. Three bookshelves are placed lined up side by side on down right stage. A table with scattered books, pages and other materials in the down center stage as well as a chair which the king is sitting in reading a book on his free time. Behind the king is a wall with a window which is used so light can shine though. Down left stage is one shelf of books as well as knight armor which is more down stage than the shelf.
King: (Reading out of the book) Mr. Keys a well known Prince in the kingdom of Vandal married his princess after saving her from an ogre. (Prince Vince enter down right)
Vince: Father, you read that book a million time already.
King: My dear boy Vince, I am doing research again for you in preparation of getting married before you become king of this great kingdom.
Vince: Father, you think so much of my marriage and all the princesses that I met, they are not the one and …
King: Your mother keeps pushing you into getting married without getting to know them first, she eager for you to get married. She is always thinking that I might die very suddenly when we less expect it.
Vince: At least there are no more ladies in waiting at the moment. Mother is doing her research for more. I am just exhausted in all this kissing up to mother. I don’t even have any time for myself.
King: (continues reading from the same book) After the ceremony the kings dies suddenly and the prince becomes king of the kingdom. The prince is determine to find out who killed his father but little did he know it was his beloved mate, she was different during the marriage, and she was not…
Vince: Father I don’t want you giving me a lecture out of a book right now. Just tell mother to hold on to the ladies to her self for awhile. I need a rest.
King: I see what I could do for you my son, you’re mother is quite… compulsive at the moment.
Vince: Before I go and play in the courts father, what is your point of view on me getting married?
King: You will know my answer soon enough my boy.
(Vince exits down right. King reads read the book in silent at the table. Black out. End of scene)
Act 1
Scene 4
Courtyard. The lights go up. A big gray brick wall is in the upper stage covering mostly of it except for the center stage. Behind it, the current is half way close, this symbolizes as the front gates of the courtyard. There are flowers and small tree around the court. Vince is writing down something in his note book down left against a small tree.
Vince: (Poetic)
“I felt the fire breath of foul beast.
Holding me, looking at me, forcing me to do something
Green beast of the east let me be, not me a feast.”
(Parament, a lady in waiting enters upper center stage walking to the center of the stage.)
Parament: Oh Prince to be mine, where art thou. I come long way, far away. Thou mother told me of your whereabouts, thus I need you, see you, love you. (Vince hides behind some flower beds.) I don’t see you my prince. I ask thou father he said nothing. Where are thou! (Exits upper center stage)
Vince: Father, it only been a couple of hours to myself, why you not tell mother. I don’t want to keep hiding. I want a private life for a day at least. Curse you father of mine. (Exit down left. Wicka enter upper center stage walking all the way down stage talking)
Wicka: I feel so much energy in this court a while ago. I could just smell it, yes. Someone wants something but can’t get it, of course. But who could it be. I need to get out of being an old lady. If not, I will be caught. Yes, and I don’t need that. Indeed. (Trips and falls to the ground, at this time Vince comes in down left because he forgot his note book but see the old lady fall, helps her)
Vince: Grandma? Is that you?
Wicka: (to self) If I say yes, he will take me to the king and I could put a spell on him, yes. But if I say that the king might call the guards on me and kill me on the spot for impersonating their grandma. But, if I say no, I won’t get near the king at all and I can’t do anything. That is indeed correct. I got it! (To Vince) My dear, you are mistaken, ow. My hips are hurting from that awful fall. (To self) I feel the energy, this is it, and it comes from him. (Laughs) (To Vince) May I rest in a comfy bed for while? I been traveling all day and my feet hurt and may smell.
Vince: I don’t know how you got into the courts lady but you don’t seem perilous. But I don’t know if I could request that for you, I wish I could really help you out but if my Mother finds you she will find me.
Wicka: (to self) Find him? Is his mom looking for him, oh yes indeed. She wants the young prince to marry, it is what I been hearing when I entered the market. This might be better than my first plan once I get his wants energy. (To Vince) Is there a place in the castle to hide me for awhile? I am also very hungry, and since you are the Prince, which I presume, you will want to make a citizen of your kingdom happy, don’t you?
Vince: I don’t want to go against my fellow people, I will help you. Come this way.
(Both exit down left, lights out, end of scene. Black out.)
ACT 1
Scene 5
(Bed room- the lights dim till the stage is completely lit. The Queen is in front of the mirror while a servant is combing her hair in the down center stage, the bed is in the center of down center stage. The king is getting measure by a servant, opposite of the queen.)
Queen: I don’t get it my dear. Vince just didn’t like the ladies in waiting. He has to get married or the kingdom will be ruled by a low class peasant.
King: He will find a bride soon enough, we got all the time we need.
Queen: This ball in the evening will not be very fun without Vince and a bride. We could of have lots of fun announcing their marriage and seeing them dance the night away.
King: That will be wonderful but it seems like he is not ready for a relationship or a marriage right now. We should just sit back for awhile…
Queen: Absolutely not! We have a lady in waiting in her chambers waiting for him right now. This is the one for Vince I just know it, and if it isn’t. We just force him to marry because she is the last princess in the world.
King: I don’t believe so. How about Cinderella?
Queen: Cleaning the castle with a rag for her controlling, abusive prince.
King: Sleeping beauty?
Queen: Sleeping well with her prince.
King: Repunselle?
Queen: Don’t you remember?
King: The lady that you won’t bring near our son, she is a single parent of six children.
Queen: He is our only child and I don’t want to loose our whole family tree. You better go talk to him and get him to fall in love. I want grandchild you know.
King: Let just get Vince a rest from the ladies for a few days, he need to have some time to him self and we also need to spend time with him.
Queen: You are absolutely correct; if you tell him to marry her right now you two can spend time talking about the bee and the flowers. I don’t want my son uneducated, I want grandchildren.
King: I already had that talk with him already.
Queen: Don’t lie to me.
(Queen Servant looks though some dresses on the bed)
King: I won’t do such a thing.
Queen: When did you have that talk?
King: When we announced to him about ladies in waiting and marriage, it had to be done sooner or later and I am not very proud of it.
Queen: I very proud of you. Now let’s end this discussion before I find him and chain him up till he gives into marrying her… just like your father did to me.
Queen Servant: My lord, may you try on this dress. (holding up a dress)
Queen: I don’t like the colors and the sleeves look like peasant wear.
Queen Servant: I make some adjustments
Queen: No need, I just wear something in the wardrobe.
(End of scene, black out)
Act 1
Scene 6
(Chambers room: A bed going diagonal, on the left is a night stand and on the other side is also a night stand. This is so that the old lady can hide in. Sound effect of water drops play for a few seconds till the lights turn on)
Wicka: You see, it is not always about what you want, most of the time, even though others want you to do something that you don’t want to do you just either do what they want you to do, or tell them what you feel. If they don’t understand, then nothing will happen; it is still an unsolved case.
Vince: My mother doesn’t understand my wants and needs, I understand hers completely but I am not ready to do them.
Wicka: I understand my dear. (To self) Yes, he is getting very emotional right now and his wants and needs are rising! I need to take his wants and needs from him; I need the energy to control the kingdom and the world. Yes, (laughs) But how? I can’t let him see me. Wait! (To Vince) I understand that you are in a very isolated situation, I can help you, you see. I am a magical creature.
Vince: My father told me they are evil, liars and can’t be trusted.
Wicka: (to self) What have I done!? Wait, It is an advantage of the situation. Correct. (To Vince) But I am a good magical creature you see. I help those who are in need of help. Like for you. You want time to be alone for awhile from your mother. The only way I look like this is because I travel around and I don’t want harm done to anyone. But your wants are very strong and I could help you get it. I can turn you into an animal for a while; you can wonder into town and enjoy life outside of these kingdom walls. You can meet your true love. (To self) He has to fall for that. If he does, wait, when he does fall for it, this just means that I have more power and soon the kingdom will be mine!
Vince: You are right! I thought hard about it and it is possible that my true love is out there. I would love to be a frog because this kingdom worships them. We have a large swamp outside with hundreds of them. But, one thing does bug me, how long does it last?
Wicka: You see, it last for a whole day maybe more if you truly want to be a frog longer, just in case you don’t find your princess you can still search. (To self) With this spell, he won’t be ever to turn back to normal anyways not without getting back his wants and needs from me. The only ways is to be kissed not the last princess on earth because the frog is a symbol for Princess Kiss! And that is hard to find. (evil laugh)
Vince: Then it is a deal then ms… what is your name? I am sorry that I didn’t introduce my self properly
Wicka: My name is Wicka. Sorry for not saying it before, it was just my hips were hurting very badly.
Vince: It is ok. What do we need to transform me into a frog?
Wicka: I need your body.
(The lights dim very low but colorful lights happen at the same spot that Wicka and Vince is at. -- Wicka takes a hold of Vince, clouds of smoke to make it look magical. After a while the lights come back on.)
Wicka: (holding up the Prince who is a large frog. Wicka is now transformed into the Prince.) *laughing in victory, dancing too*
I tricked you my prince! I stole all your wants and needs energy. They are needed to give me power! I need the power to do my own wants and needs and they are needed to take over the kingdom, and as you can see. The old lady that I was, she did the same thing just like you Oh and don’t worry, you can’t talk so we can’t hear you… you are just an ordinary frog so you can’t do nothing to stop me. That is how I get your powers by transforming you into the animal you want to be!
Oh, don’t worry, I let you live… in the swamp!
(End of scene, black out, for now on Wicka is not played as the Old lady but as the Prince.)
Act 2
Scene 1
(The lights are still off; the same scary music is playing for 1-2mins. Narrator walks to the down-center of the stage, Spot light is on him)
Narrator: Wicka is an evil creature alright, you have witness his progress in his plan. You saw him turn into an old lady and turn her into a dove. You also saw him turn into the Prince, while the prince is a helpless little frog only way out is to be kissed by his true love! I really want to start the show now, are you?
(Narrator exits stage, spotlight turn off. Music of nice melody plays for a 1min.
Court yard: The red curtain opens .Lights turn on.
Wicka enters from down-left stage.)
Wicka: It is almost sundown in about four hours and I don’t know where the king is. I’ve been looking for him all day. Yes, indeed. The sooner I find him the better.
(Parament enters down-left stage.)
Parament- There art thou prince.
Wicka: Go away; there is no need of you here.
Parament- Thou mother said thou be solitary.
Wicka: You’re not even using “Thou” correctly. It shows how intelligent you are.
Parament- I don’t believe love at first sight, and knowing thou first before making plans of marriage is better.
Wicka: Yes, looks are deceiving, now as I said, go away!
Parament- Thou mother said thou want me gone, so she gave me these. (Pulls out chain-cuffs and cuff them together)
Wicka: What is the meaning of this! Indeed.
Parament- Thou mother ask for me to do it, she says I am your true love. But, I can’t argue against the queen.
Wicka: (to self) That is it, she know the queen and since I haven’t seen the king all day. I can use this lady in waiting to get me near mother and doing that enables me to get near the king and I will rule the world. That is correct.
Parament: Thou mother said, let’s go to town before the ball later tonight.
Wicka: (tries biting, yanking, pulling and smashing the chains with a brick.) Relinquish of these chains. Remove me from these chains this instants!
Parament: If only I had the key. You see only the queen has the key.
Wicka: (To self) I can’t use my magic in front of her, she will rip my hands off while trying to run away.
Parament: Well, let’s go to the market right now. You can buy me some great food, nice jewelry and other great peasant like.
Wicka: (to self) This lady in waiting is rather unintelligent about my matter. All I have to do is put her to sleep. That is what I need to do. But the only spell I know is the clap spell. But wait, before I do that, I can find out her wants. It can make her be quiet and I can ask the queen to take these off.
Parament- You know what I want?
Wicka: (to self) I can feel it, this want is so great… I can take her wants and turn her into an animal or a creature. This is great, indeed.
Parament- Wait never mind, I just rather spend some time with you so I can determine if I want to marry you.
Wicka: (to self) I just have to keep bugging her till she tells me, if not I have to do the clap spell.
(Both exit up-stage center, black out, end of scene)
Act 2
Scene 2
(The market place- People are talking [ad lip], walking around looking at stalls and local entertainment. Nothing special, Turn lights on. Parament and Wicka enter left ramp.)
Wicka: Once again I am back outside of the castle walls.
Parament: No need to be shy my princy-dincy. Oh look entertainers!
(Two street people are dancing and one is beating a stick to a barrel)
Parament: That is so great, lets dance!
Wicka: I have no time to be dancing with the likes of you.
Parament: Thou are no fun, oh look some children playing.
I want children you know, around fifty or so.
Wicka: That is a large sum, you sure will be busy.
Parament: Not really, I have the servants take care of them. I just am there when they want to go shopping in the market place.
Wicka: (to self) This lady really needs to go.
Parament: Vince, thou buy me these, I want all of them.
Guy: It is a large sum of money sir.
Wicka: I don’t have any money, let’s go.
Parament: No, we are staying out for awhile before the Queen Ball.
(People gasp and chatter)
Woman: You know the queen? You’re attending the ball?
Parament: Of course I am, and so is the prince. (Patting him on the back.) I am the lady in waiting.
(People gasp and chatter some more)
Wicka: (to self) That is it, the only way to get out of this is to do the clap spell, since she wouldn’t give out information previously.
(To everyone) Hello everyone I am Wic—Vince your handsome, trustworthy, worshiping prince and I am inviting you all to the ball to night. But this is a last notice but you need to learn this clap technique as soon as possible. I am going to teach you, but I need everyone to do it ok.
(to self) Yes, this is going to be so much fun, the more people that join the better the spell is efficient.
[People ad lib
-Prince, what do you want us to do?
-He is the prince?
-Is she going to marry him?
-It is rare that the prince is out in the public like this.]
Wicka: Ok, I need you guys to clap as one. Ok for the first line of my …uh, poem. Keep doubling it after each line ok.
(People cheer and clap)
Wicka: (to self) This is going to work, correct. No wonder I am going to be king sooner or later.
(to the people)
“Night sky, above me let my eyes get real heavy. (people clap)
Night sky, with stars above make me yawn real loud. (people clap)
Night sky, with black and blue make me real sleepy (people clap)
Night sky, I choose her (Parament) to fall under.” (People clap)
(A person with a mirror that was passing by goes in the way and the spell reflected back and Wicka feel is falling asleep)
NO! curse that mirror, the spell back fired on –me!
I haven't written the other part yet, but what do you think?
