Well... today was my birthday. It was the best one I've had all year.
Saturday, I had to go down to Globe to help out my mom. First, I had to take the dogs to the groomer. My sweet little dog, Lucky, was no problem. She was shaved (she had TONS of hair) and cleaned and is now beautiful. Biscuit, my mom's dog was almost a nightmare. She's a bullmastiff and weighs in at 170 lbs. She doesn't listen to me because I'm neither my mom, nor do I have treats constantly on hand. Well... after herniating myself lifting that lumox into a washtub type thing (the groomer was a tiny woman) I had to hold her still while she got washed, scrubed and brushed. They have little air dryer -for lack of better words - cabinets there. Biscuit was far too large and strong for them. I had to take her back wet. Oh well... no biggie.
The main reason I was down there was because on Tuesday I had to take my mother to get surgery on her foot. She has gout. Normally, this would be a simple remedy, but my mother's allergic to the only medicine made to combat it. So... every joint in her body is destroying itself. She has crystal like things that grow in every joint and make it painful and sometimes impossible to move. Her hands are fused in one position and horribly malformed due to it. This surgery was to clear out some of the gunk that has built up in her foot and eaten away the bone.
I ended up staying an extra day (that's today) to take her back home. There was a bit of a miscommunication concerning that; I had thought someone else was taking care of the ride home. It wasn't really a big deal. I had to rearrange an interview at the mall, but the manager at the Knife Shop said tomorrow was perfect.
I ended the activities of the day by surprising my mom with a trip to Pancho's Mexican Buffet in Mesa. Though using a walker now, the allure of Pancho's sour cream enchiladas made my mom get up and burn rubber.
For those of you who don't know what Pancho's is... but regularly watch South Park.... think Casa Bonita without Black Bart's cave and the Cliff diving. Basically... you pay, you point out the food you want, you get as much as you like, then you sit down and eat. When you want more, you raise a little Mexican flag (now it just says Pancho's crying ) and they bring you more food. The food is... well it used to be fantastic. Now, they've switched to a more "healthy" ingredients list. It's still better than anything I can cook, but then I suppose that's not too hard.
Anyway, that was my day. I ended it by picking up the new Harry Potter at Hastings JUST before they closed, then grabbing some cream frosted cupcakes from Safeway. A little candle and a voila! Birthday cake for one!
Well... that's all I got. I don't suppose anyone will read this... but at least it's written down. Maybe I can look back on it and reminisce in a year or two.
