Bad news comes, don't you worry even when it lands...WELL, WELL, WELL.
I've used my journal to mostly gripe about random crap, so... I'll do something different this time! =D
I will critique ten songs from different bands (sometimes a few songs might be from the same band, depends on what I've been listening to lately)! The songs will be completely random, but if you're actually reading these critiques and care about them, then you can PM me and ask me to critique a song that you've heard.
Umm... I will be providing links to the songs; if you click on the name of the song or the artist, then you will be redirected to a Youtube video of it (not necessarily a music video of it).
Right then, let's start, shall we?
1. Starlight by Muse I've just recently gotten the album, Black Holes and Revelations by Muse. It's decent, it's my second album so I don't have much to go on...
But, this song I had grown to LOVE, even before I got the album.
Matt Bellamy (the lead singer) has a nice voice, and it's a nice romanticish song. So, like, yeah. A nice bass on it, too. Check it out, definitely.
2. Anna Molly by Incubus These first two songs I absolutely LOVED when I first listened to them. Amazing. Anna Molly really stands out, because I really loved the intro, and for me, the introduction for a song is, most of the time, the thing that makes or breaks my love for that song. This one starts out with a nice guitar that continues on the chorus and such...
So, again, the vocals are great, the sound is great overall, I loved the chorus, etc. etc. Listen, eh?
3. Supermassive Black Hole by Muse Again, from Black Holes and Revelations. The intro is nice, I especially like the guitar, sounds a little heavy/industrialish.
But then his vocals kick in, and you're like "whoa, what the ********, where'd that come from?!"
Because, see, if you listen to it, it starts out like it's gonna be a harsh voice or melodic, but he comes in with the other direction - he comes in with an extremely high pitched voice, you really have to hear it to believe it. Now, this has me cringing. But then, the chorus kicks in, and I hear an almost electronic "supermassive black hole" almost whispered.
So yes, I love this song for the intro part before the vocals and the chorus. ... the music video is interesting, too. Interesting. I never said great. Definitely worth a listen, though.
4. Misery Business by Paramore Alright, this song was my favorite for like, a month after I heard it first. And of course, that was only held up for so long because, well, I could only hear it on the radio (not on me iPod), so go figure.
Could be a guilty pleasureish song, I guess, but not great to love long time. I dunno, though, that's just me.
It's a really teenager-oriented song, so... I have nothing, really, to say.
Nice angry-esque song, though, and I do like her vocals.
5. All Around Me by Flyleaf Aha, another female vocalist. Oh no! Christian rock! Cringe in fear!
Yes, I am cringing. Me not like song! Ugg! D:<
But, yeah, I really have no good reason. Just, she's not as hot as I thought she'd be. Lol.
Worth checking out, if you haven't heard it yet. Try not to think about the fact that they're Christian rock.
6. So Hott by Kid Rock I... I...
I really can't say anything more.
7. Fake It by Seether Meh, I like it. I really can't judge it much, because I haven't listened to it, but, eh, I like the lyrics and chorus, and the intro's pretty good.
8. What I've Done by Linkin Park Been a few months since Minutes to Midnight came out. It was decent, I liked most of the tracks on it, but they weren't as hard as the old songs.
Anywho, I like this song. The intro is very… um… good.
The lack of lyrics is made up for (not MORE than made up for) by the instrumentals in the chorus, but I don’t think it really matters – the symbolism of the song is good enough to be stated in just a few words.
9. Victim by Eighteen Visions Good chorus, nothing that blows me away about this song. I'd give it a 3 out of 5, but see what you think. An all-around good rock song, maybe a bit angry... or just a little ticked.
10. Empty Walls by Serj Tankian System of a Down? This guy's from it, and doing a solo album (he has done many others, but they weren't as publicized). It's a great song, vocals like always, but a nice song, vocals, chorus, instrumentals, all.
Very meaningful, too. I'd give it a 9 out of 10, because his vocals are just kinda weird for me and he looks funny (I thought of Borat... no offense, Serj/SOAD lovers).
Anyways, great one to end the critique with.
Oh, by the way, Serj's album comes out on the 23rd of October, you should probably get it, it's pretty damned good if you judge from Empty Walls (heck, I'm probably going to get it).
See you guys next time! =D
*Note: This whole critique is all of my own opinion - if you are offended in any way by any part of it, you can complain to moi.
I won't really give a s**t (I might argue with you) unless it's something wrong with the facts (like if I say it's rock and it's actually, like, alternative or something ((because I don't know music that well))) so, yeah..
8B Good news will work its way to all them plans!
