We all remember Pokemon. We loved to see Ash and Pikachu win battle after battle, with Misty and Brock cheering from the sidelines. Now, its been a long time since I've seen Pokemon. This morning, I turned the TV on to see one of the more recent Pokemon episodes. And this was basically my reaction:
"What. The. Hell?!"
Ok, Pokemon was never the greatest anime. It was badly dubbed and had the characters didn't have that much personality. But it was colorful and full of movement, which kept us entertained. And there was always action. Which is why I still think fondly of the early days of Pokemon.
The newer episodes are just...awful. For one thing, they replaced Misty with Dawn, an extremely annoying young trainer. I guess she's the replacement for May, who was slightly less annoying. Not only is her voice annoying, but she has no personality. At all. You wouldn't even be able to tell she was feeling any specific emotion if it wasn't for the animation! Come on people!
Well, at least Brock is still there. Or maybe that's a bad thing. If there was an award for having no personality what-so-ever, it would go to Brock. While the other characters at least have animation to depict emotions, Brock has nothing. Even when he's fawning over a girl he has no emotion in his voice. I mean really people...
Ash....ok. I'll just get to the point here: its been twelve freaking seasons and the kid hasn't aged........what the hell? Not to mention his lack of personality.
Team Rocket.
Oh my God.
Team Rocket. The once great duo of Jesse and James and, of course Meowth. There was a time when these three were bad-a**. They were a serious threat to Ash and Pikachu, often coming up with creative plans to try and steal Pokemon away. And, somehow, their various disguises always seems to fool Ash and his friends, no matter how ridiculous they were....now they're just gay. That's just putting it simply. They pull the same s**t every time, and every time the good guys fall for it. But Team Rocket always loses. At least in the old seasons they'd mix it up every now and then and have Team Rocket 'win!' (Of course they'd be defeated in the next episode...but meh.)
It seems that the show we all know and love has fallen from its former glory. So, just for old time's sake I think I'm going to go watch the first few episodes on my ancient and dying VCR. See ya!
