Name: Kestrel Birchwing (Only known to her brother and the Goddess) Aliases: KK (her thief's mark), Kitty (to her few close friends), Karen Oakwood (To her employers/business associates) Personality: Though mysterious and often unwilling to talk about herself, Kestrel has an air that puts people around her at ease. She can seem to disappear at will, so she can often listen in on conversations between people who think themselves alone. Kestrel is uncharacteristically serious in her devotion to her patron goddess, the Goddess of Lies. She is best described as cat-like; a loner, clever, agile, and at once both sweet and hostile. Likes: Cats, darkness, the thrill of thievery, shiny things, a good challenge, disguises, gossip (to listen to, not to spread) Dislikes: Dogs, daytime, disrespect towards her patron Goddess, blackberries Race: 1/2 Neko Team: She makes her living as a thief, so yes Evil Bio: Kestrel's mother died two years after her younger brother, Cedar, was born, leaving their father to look after four-year-old Kestrel and the toddler. Alder Birchwing was a bounty hunter by trade, but with two young children it was hard living. Kestrel began to steal food for her brother when she was five. Though her father would return whatever he caught her taking, Kestrel saw that Cedar might not make it without the extra nutrition. She got better at avoiding her father's eyes. The day after her eleventh birthday, Kestrel tried to steal from a shrine dedicated to the Goddess-- though she had hardly touched the offering before she was swarmed by a dozen angry black cats. The Goddess, however, saw potential in the scrawny thief girl, and that night she spoke to Kestrel in her dreams. She had chosen Kestrel to be her "avatar," an agreement by which a mortal receives a god's blessing and good fortune in exchange for offerings and carrying out said god's business in the mortal world. Kestrel was 16 when her father died, and she and her brother traveled to a nearby city. She parted ways with her brother there, because he wanted to be an adventurer and she was by that time working as a professional thief.
