P r e s e n t
Breathe in... Breathe out. In. Out. The grass whispered beneath her, the trees and bushes in the area rustled. Sabre wished they would be quiet; had she not told them that she needed peace during her meditation? Could they be more inconsiderate? Holding conversations where she could hear, talking about her--No. She needed to stop thinking about them. Stop focusing on the outside world! Clear the mind..
"Young One." Sabre bit back a frustrated curse as her fragile state of meditation shattered. Exhaling in frustration, she tilted her head back to glare up at her mentor. Gilean looked down at her in thinly veiled amusement. "There is no meditation deep enough that will unlock your memories, Young One. Night is falling, you should turn in."
"You have no way of knowing that." Sabre responded, raising from her position on the ground to stand before him. There was exasperation in every move she made. No one seemed to be cooperating with her quest to find her memory. "If anyone" She raised her voice a notch to be sure the plants knew they were included in the statement, "let me have some peace long enough to actually meditate, I would be able to discover it myself. However, that seems to not be an option these days."
"Perhaps you will have more success inside."
"You mean, perhaps I will have more success when I've rested some." Gilean chuckled softly and turned, beginning to lead the way through the garden. Sabre followed after him, not at all happy.
"If you meditate prior to rest, even your sleep may prove useful in this bid for knowledge of your past."
"...I have yet experienced a time when your advice misled me. So I suppose I shall need to give your suggested method a try." Sabre tilted her head down, making a point to ignore fond glance cast back at her. Bidding her mentor good night, she retired to her quarters.
--.--.--
"Amazing." Sabre cast her gaze about her, feeling both awed and irked at the apparent proof of accuracy behind her mentor's claim. This place could not have come to her before? It took sleep, of all things...
"Welcome! Welcome, dear guest, to the Infinite Corridor, the world between wake and slumber. I am The Doorman, a humble denizen of this plane." Her attention was drawn suddenly to a male clad in rather odd clothing. Sabre wondered briefly who tailored such a ridiculous looking hat before shaking the thought from her mind and letting her gaze follow his movement towards the door. Huh.
"...Very well, then, 'Doorman'. Grant me access to this corridor of yours." She doubted whether or not this would go anywhere, but the fact of the matter was that an event she had yet to experience was occurring. Sabre would follow it through to the end result. She took a step forward.
"Not so fast, my friend!" The blasted man blocked her path, causing Sabre's eyes to narrow. Clenching her fist in a quiet show of impatience, she paused in her movement to glare at him, "Many things become lost in the Corridor. Many things, many people, have entered, but have never returned. Beyond this door lies a series of rooms. Without proper direction, the doors will loop endlessly. If you are seeking something, it is likely that it has become lost somewhere inside."
This made her pause and stare at the door once more, feeling apprehension build up as the man produced a key for her to take. She did so, holding it up to examine now, "The key to the door?" The Doorman smiled at her in plain amusement.
"This is your key, and it is literally the key to finding what is lost. However, this key will only open two doors: the door you see before you, and the door your lost thing resides behind. The other doors..." He chuckled, causing the apprehension Sabre had been feeling to rise. This was beginning to sound like some sort of... "The other doors can only be opened by taking the keys from the others that roam about, seeking that which they have lost. Take their keys, break their will to strengthen your own, and you can continue forward. Lose your key, and your lost thing will remain forever lost."
"A game." She deadpanned, frowning at the man. He simply smiled and nodded his head, stepping back to clear the path towards the waiting door. Sabre stared at it for a moment before sighing and muttering a soft, "Wonderful... But, there is a price for everything. If this is the price I need pay to regain my memory, then..." Was it worth it? Ensuring that others may never find what they sought after themselves just to restore the first fifteen centuries of her life in her mind?
...Yes. Sabre crossed the rest of the way to the door and slipped the key into the lock. This was worth that cost; if it meant that she could find answers to help her win the war. In her memories may lie something that would effect the entirety of Ialu. It was not really her decision; she must follow the path given her by Fate. This corridor was obviously brought to her so she could travel it, and travel it she would.
Letting the door fall open, she passed over the threshold and looked about once more. Here was her first test. The Doorman had passed in behind her, "Hmmm... it seems that many others have already gathered, seeking their precious things. This place has never seen such activity!" Then, there were going to be plenty of people whose hopes she would likely have to crush to receive her own. "Well! This should be interesting, very interesting! A clash of passions with a dash of unpredictability! You see, the corridor has a mind of its own, and the presence of so many has excited it. I've never seen it so lively in all my years! We can expect interference on its part without a doubt; it should be a jolly time! And, of course, I wish everyone the best of luck!"
"...Interference from a living corridor. Wonderful; just what I wanted to hear." The sarcasm in her voice was not missed and the Doorman chuckled softly. Sabre shot a sideways glare at him. She had not been aiming to amuse. "Don't you have a door to man?"
With that final word, she turned away from him, sliding the hand which held her key into the first pouch on her belt for safe keeping before doing a once over of herself. She had her travel clothing on; the very outfit she frequently wore in her dreams. There was knife in her belt and a familiar weight on her back. Good; her sword was present as well. Sabre had no possible idea what skills she would be required to use throughout this event, but knowing that she could use melee without pulling on her elemental abilities gave a certain amount of relief.
