Okay, okay.... What to wear on my first day of school...
You tilt your head to the right and squint your eyes as you rake your eyes over the clothes hanging in your closet.
Maybe something like..... this!
You snatch a black-thigh-length dress and maroon-plaid flannel shirt off their hangers.
Perfect.
After you get dressed and grab your bag, you start to head downstairs.
As you're walking by the body-length mirror hung on your bedroom door, you think you see the reflection of a face by the window.
What the hell?!
Your eyes widen and you snap around to see what's there.
You see nothing and walk over to make sure there truly is nothing there.
After opening the window, you stick your head out to see if some jerk kids are running off after playing some practical joke on you.
But there's no one around.
As you look to your left, you notice that the flower pot by the corner of your house is turned over.
That's weird... that thing is way too heavy for wind or a groundhog to knock over.
You figure that your parents had accidentally knocked it over and forgot to pick it back up or something.
You walk downstairs and eat breakfast, say bye to your parents, and head out the door.
Before you go to the bus stop, you walk over to the flower pot to pull it back up.
As you're starting to lift the pot, you notice something moving around the corner of your house.
You jump as you hear the leaves rustle and the twigs crack.
Wow, I really need to stop thinking there's someone here... it's probably just a rabbit or something.
That's when it happens.
You feel the hard Whack of the pipe on the back of your head as you fall helplessly to the ground.
You're barley conscious, but you know that you're being dragged away and can't make any noises to alert your parents.
The only thing you can hear as you're passing the tree line into the woods behind your house are the heavy footsteps of the person dragging you.
Before long, everything fades into black and you are oblivious to your surroundings.
-------------------------------------------------------------------------
A Few Hours Later
-------------------------------------------------------------------------
You shield your eyes from the sunlight as you wake up.
You don't know where you are.
You rub your head where you got hit by the the pipe and wince in pain.
It's gonna be sore for awhile.
You look around.
The only thing you can see is a cement wall on every side of you, enclosing you in some sort of courtyard.
You search for a door, but there is no luck.
You catch a glimpse of something written on the far wall and crawl over to it.
To get out, you must go around the corner; the corner of the walls that trap you; the corner of the walls that surround you now.
What the hell does that mean?
You sigh and turn to look around the courtyard again.
That's when you notice yet another note on another wall.
When you get to it, you can see that it is only an arrow, pointing to the right, directly at the corner where the two walls meet.
Well that's helpful.
To humor yourself, and whoever wrote the notes, you drag a finger down the crack in the corner of the two walls.
What happens next astounds you, as the crack grows and grows until it reaches from the ground to the top of the wall.
The crack widens as well, until it is just big enough for a person to slip through.
You look over your shoulders to see if anything else had happened, and nothing had.
This is the only way out, so I might as well go for it. What could happen anyway?
You take a deep breath and step through the crack, now a gap between two walls.
The only way to go is right, around the corner of the wall that had just trapped you in the courtyard.
At the end of that stretch, there's an opening to your left and to your right.
You go right.
Again, at the end, you reach a fork. One path goes right, the other left.
You go left.
You reach a dead end and must turn around and go back to the last intersection.
You go straight now, which at first would've been a right turn.
You realize at this moment that you weren't just in a courtyard, but in the center of a maze.
So I'm in a giant cement maze with no idea how I got here or how to get out.
You take a right at the next fork.
And then a left.
You hit a dead end.
Ugh!
You keep walking, choosing randomly which way to go next.
Sometimes it leads to a dead end, other times a stretch can go on for what feels like miles, and you think maybe, just maybe, that this is the end....
And then there's another split.
Left, right, right, left, right.
You choose a pattern of turns and stick to it.
Maybe whoever did this to me is trying to see if I can do this with some sort of plan...
As the sun becomes lower in the sky, an idea hits you.
The sun rises in the East, and sets in the West. If I can pick a direction and stick to it, maybe there'll be an exit!
You watch the sun and walk towards it for as long as you can still see it in the sky.
When it becomes too dark to know for sure you are going in the right direction, you decide to try and sleep and wait for morning.
Ow! What did I just hit with my foot?
You look down and realize that you kicked something over.
A flower pot.
