Sasha aimlessly walked through the village. She thought of it as a village. Most of the others thought of it as it really was: a refuge. A refuge from the terrible war between the humans and elementals. Those who came to this refuge seeked a place away from the war, where they could live their own lives and not be bothered with having to fight. Sure, they were hiding, but it was worth it.
The elemental girl sighed and looked up from the ground she had been staring at for so long. The faces here were not sad as some might think, but rather happy, joyful. The elementals were given a chance to start fresh, to live a life without constant fighting and bloodspill. Of course, few of them admitted the truth: there would be an end to their peace. Either the elementals or humans would find their hidden refuge, and they would be forced to fight. However, Sasha knew this was true, and she was dreading the day it would come.
"Sasha! Sasha!" A little girl's voice called. She turned to look at an eight-year-old fire elemental, and a small smile crossed her thin, pale lips. "Ember, what are you doing?" The little girl ran up and hugged Sasha's legs, and she could not help but softly chuckle. "Sasha, Mommy said I needed to go find someone to play with...Will you play with me Sasha, pweaaassee?" The little girl begged her.
Sasha sighed and knelt down to the ground so she could look the girl in the eyes. "I'd love to play with you, Ember, but what shall we play?" The girl's eyes lit up, and she giggled before running in a circle around Sasha. "Hide and seek, Sasha! Hide and seek!" Sasha smiled and stood back up. "All right, you can hide anywhere in the village. I'll count to twenty with my eyes closed. Ready?" She recieved a nod from Ember and closed her eyes. "One...two...three....four...five..."
