Okay, yeah. I took WAY too long to get to this. This Journal will still be some game reviews. Next time I'll give a character rundown. Okay, here we go. On the three games I got for Christmas.
Shin Megami Tensei: Persona 3 FES (PS2) -
The special edition of the the popular Atlus game Persona 3 of the Shin Megami Tensei series. And quite frankly, I could some it up in one abbreviation... ZOMG!!!! This game had me hooked the within the first 5 MINUTES of playing it! You play as an unnamed hero, as with the general consensus of Atlus' SMT series, who has the power to summon multiple Personas, second souls that grant the Persona-users special powers to fight creatures known as the Shadows. Now don't think you just go around the world in some huge, larger than life adventure. No, after all, you're in the city, and you're still a kid. That means you and your teammates have to do all this while dealing with school life. However, FES offers two chapters. The original chapter, The Journey, with added features, and The Answer, the special chapter set two months after The Journey.
The Journey: Forge friendships and bonds with all sorts of people to the ultimate benefit of powering your Personas and fight the Shadows over a period of an entire school year and perhaps even get a girlfriend or two as P3's nameable hero.
The Answer: Play as Aegis (Aigis in the English version) and fight over through a series of well guarded dungeons in order to unlock a great mystery with the help of your friends a new, special edition character, Metis. Note: Some features and conditions in The Journey are do not apply to The Answer. Still awesome though. I mean, Aegis!
I ended up playing this game weeks on end until I finished it and got some way into The Answer. It was just that awesome and addictive.
Ys: The Ark of Nepishtim (PS2) -
For those who love good old fashioned Fantasy, with a new twist, and look for something more actiony in an RPG, Ys is a good choice. Play as Adol the Red, a famous/ infamous hero who gets washed up on a strange island and goes through a great adventure, while at the same time unknowingly capturing the hearts of certain women. At first you begin the game with an ordinary sword, only to later have it switched with three elemental swords of Wind, Fire and Lightning (Wait a sec... ZOMG! Western Samanosuke!!! jk). Although the graphics of this game are quite low key compared to others, it's a very fun game that you're not likely to put down any time soon if you're a real fantasy nerd.
Kung Fu Panda (PS2) -
Based off Dreamwork's famous movie (also endorsed by Gaians), Kung Fu Panda is an action game with the nostalgic feel of a previous title of a similar concept, Tai Fu. You play as Po (duh), the serious Kung Fu fan who is soon named the Dragon Warrior by Master Oogway. However, at certain points in the game, you're also given the chance to play as Shi Fu (Yoda action!!!), Tigress, Crane, Monkey, Mantis and Viper (Though Mantis and Viper are only played in cutscene button prompt). This is a very fun came and has comedic bits that you can really get into, even though it somewhat diverts a bit from the main story. However, my only gripe is the levels of the game are too short Despite there being some good challenges, you're through a level before you know it. But that's not a huge problem, as the game offers unlockable multiplayer games where you can play with and/ or against friends. And chapters of the game are even narrated by Po himself, rather comically too. Oh yeah! And you even get to use the WuXi Fingerhold on Tai Lung!
That's all for now. Until next time!
