Last night I dreamed that I was a vampire, but this was brought about by an eclipse (as in Heroes) rather being bitten. I was a 'vampire' in name only, and really seemed like some other kind of supernatural creature, but those who manifested powers (whatever they were) all had the same one.
The first eclipse was in Iran, and this was many years ago (either 5 years ago or in 1995). It happened in one fell swoop, turning a population of them at once. Then, about a year or two ago, the eclipse came to the United States but it was partial and only sporatically changed people. I was one of them. A war broke out between the American and Iranian vampires, initially over hunting territory but later over ideological differences. There was a paper indicating the dates of the respective eclipses, and Iran was crossed out with some kind of negative word written underneath ("discouraging"?). America was left normal. The next eclipse to happen would be total and it would be in China, a major event which would turn many people (in fact there is an eclipse coming up soon in China). 'China' was also crossed out, with "inspiring" written underneath, and then a year or so after China would be the eclipse in Japan which was not crossed out on the sheet.
I don't remember who the sheet belonged to, but one of the two sides had plans to recruit the Chinese to their side. What happened was, our group of Americans became captured by the Iranians. Many of them were about my age so I tried to befriend them in hopes that they would not be able to kill us if I did so, but their minds and hearts were set. I also did not know the people in my own troupe or unit, and got to know a boy and a girl very well and did not want either to die, and tried to conceive of some scheme to free us.
I had a feeling that if I tried to fight back, everyone would follow suit (although I was not a leader among the group) and it would be a bloodbath because we were so outnumbered. So I went along peacefully, in hopes that they would change their mind. They didn't, and forced us to inject ourselves with bleach. When it was my turn, I injected my leg but purposefully missed my vein. I also tried to not put the entire dosage in but in the end they made us drink what we hadn't injected.
People started dieing pretty quickly. I lost track of the girl but stayed by the boy's side (I remember that he had distinct dark hair and might have been the only one in our unit with it). I tried to focus on him living (like in the secret) but was powerless to change his fate. Also, because I hadn't communicated my own method to him, I felt like I had allowed him to die. I was sick also at that point, and although I stayed by his side for a while holding his hand and watching him suffer through his last moments, eventually I had to run to the bathroom.
I hadn't thought the bleach was having much of an effect (and I was also faking effects to avoid detection) but in the bathroom, my urine was mostly blood and it burned to pass. I began to wonder if I really would die. When I got back, my friend was already in a bodybag. A few other people (less than ten of our original hundred or so) had less effects from the bleach, and the Iranians considered making us take additional dosages (which I knew I couldn't handle) or kill us some other way.
There was some minor plot about a stage and a man who kept talking about something or rather that ended up being fabricated (I think about having a wife/family or an acting career), and the whole point was that he was trying to keep hope within himself so that he would have the will to live. His girlfriend, who was Japanese, was silent but deadly (literally), and effortlessly killed one of the Iranians.
Near the end I started imagining the next eclipse, if a group of us lived that long, and how it would be for us to reuinite. I didn't feel connected to anyone from that group though; the people I loved were dead, and I felt more connected to them. Throughout the dream I was deeply afraid that once we died, that really would be the end. I've had many dreams where I've actually died, but I haven't been concerned until this one.
