Chapter 1
A Big Problem
‘’Good night mom!’’ Amy yelled down the hall as she headed to her room. ‘‘Wait!’’ her mother exclaimed as she turned the corner and followed her daughter down the hall. ‘’What?”’ Amy said. “’Well honey, I know that I’ve been bugging you a lot about going to Sarah’s party tomorrow…’’ ‘’Mom, can’t you just drop the subject already! Just leave me alone!’’ ‘’No honey, please just listen to me this time.’’ ‘’Fine! Now hurry up so that I can go to bed.’’ Amy said angrily. ‘’I just wanted to tell you that I realize I over reacted earlier and your 14, you need to be able to start making your own decisions. Whether or not you decide to go to her party tomorrow I want you to know that I’m OK with that. I know that I can trust you and I need to let go.’’ ‘’Thanks mom, I’ll let you know what I decide.’’ ‘’Good night, I’ll see you in the morning.’’ Her mother said then leaned in to kiss her on the cheek. She then turned and went back down the hall to her own bedroom.
Amy went to her room and turned up her radio, she then turned and plopped down on her bed. She pulled out her hair tie and ran her fingers through her long brown hair. It’s about time my mom finally gave me some freedom she thought to herself. She was quickly distracted by the ring of her cell phone. She reached over and grabbed it. ‘’Hello?’’ ‘’Hi Amy, it’s Sarah.’’ A girls voice replied in a distressed tone from the other line. ‘‘Oh hey Sarah, what’s wrong? You sound upset.’’ ‘‘Yeah. I didn’t know who to call but I know that you’ll listen and that I can rely on you.’’ ‘’What’s on your mind?’’ ‘’My boyfriend was over and he just left. He’s been hitting me, hard. I don’t know why or what to do about it.’’ ‘’Oh my gosh! Why didn’t you tell me before?!’’ ‘’I’ve been scared to tell anyone, I didn’t know how they would react.’’ ‘’This is serious Sarah, maybe you should tell the police.’’
‘’No!’’ ‘’Why not?’’ ‘’That would get him super angry and then I would only be in for it worse.’’ ‘’Well you’ve got to do something about it. You can’t just stand there and let it happen. That certainly isn’t helping anything.’’ ‘’I don’t know, I just don’t know. I can’t tell and I can’t keep letting it happen. What other options do I have?’’ ‘’To tell you the truth I really don’t know how to answer that. If I was in your situation I would probably be just as clueless as to what I should to do.’’ Well, thanks for listening, I needed to tell somebody. For some reason it hurt more when I was the only one who knew.’’ ‘’I’m glad that I was at least able to help a little. Oh, I know that this doesn’t really have anything to do with why you called but my mom told me that if I want to I can go to your party tomorrow.’’ ‘’The party? Oh yeah the party. Umm, I’m not sure if I still want to have the party.’’ ‘’What do you mean? You’ve been telling people about this party for weeks, telling them that they have to come.’’ ‘’I know. The truth is, Kevin told me that if I had the party that he would ruin it. I don’t know what that means but I don’t want to know either. All I know is that he doesn’t want me to have the party and if I go ahead and have it something bad is probably going to happen.’’ ‘’Kevin is your boyfriend right?’’ ‘’Yes.’’ ‘’He sounds way too controlling over you.’’ ‘’He is.’’ ‘’Well Sarah I’m really tired I need to get some sleep.’’ ‘’OK. Thanks for listening.’’ ‘’Your welcome, I’m here anytime just call.’’ ‘’See you at school tomorrow.’’ ‘’Bye.’’ Amy flipped her phone shut and set it aside. She reached over and switched off her lamp then sighed and let a little prayer out for Sarah deep within her. She closed her eyes and fell asleep with a deep burden upon her heart.
