In modern times dragons are usually shown as a huge lizard/snake with 2 pairs of reptile like legs, and are also able to "breath fire". The European dragon also has a pair of bat like wings growing from it's back and without front legs. Basically it's portrayed in many ways either 2 pairs of legs and a pair of wings, or all the way down to no legs and a pair of wings, or no wings and 2 pairs of legs. Different cultures along with different people look at the dragon in different ways. Dragons are said to breath/spit fire, ice, or poison, but by most are portrayed to hatch from eggs and have scaly bodies. In some cultures the Dragon's heart is able to cure anything but the scales are as hard as diamond. Dragons were originally seen as smaller than a human but as the myths and legends grew so did the size of the dragon. All see it different ways and as there are new generations of people on this earth there are new portrayals of the dragon but over all the dragon will be seen in a similar way, a lizard like creature with 0, 2, or 4 legs (growing if the dragon goes beyond the typical size) and with or without a pair of bat like wings, with the whole body covered in scales.
