Ancient Battle
By: Xepher
It was a perfectly normal day where this story began. Xepher, the guardian angel of Earth, was making his way around in Cancun, Mexico. It was Spring Break so he always spends a little extra time there because it’s the time when a few more demons find ways out and possess or otherwise cause humans to make bad choices.
A little more about Xepher. He is, as stated, the guardian angel of the Earth. He is about 5’ 9” tall with black spiky hair and white angelic wings. In fact, if it weren’t for the wings most would think he is human. He prefers to dress similar to us to look less strange to people, He is a calm, gentle angel who has helped a lot of people, his only problem is that many, both human and angel, say he needs to loosen up and enjoy things more, as his mind is always focused on making sure no harm comes to earth.
As night fell on the city and the parties began, Xepher heightened his senses to know immediately if anything went wrong. sure enough a few hours later he sensed it, a demon managed to escape and had possessed a young girl. he quickly rushed to the scene. “ Typical,”he thought as he got there,”They always start when I start to relax. Oh well, this shouldn’t take long.” He began chanting something in Hebrew and before anyone really knew what was going on the demon had been cast out and was standing before their eyes! Xepher the pulled out a broadsword infused with Holy energy and cut the demon down.
“How odd,” He though as he left,”Usually it’s just a demon controlling someone’s mind, this can’t be good. I’m going to investigate.”
As Xepher approached the seal surrounding Hell he immediately knew what was wrong. Somehow a large gash had formed in the seal and demons of all sizes were escaping and creating chaos worldwide. He had no idea how he would do this, but he had to... it was his job.
In the meantime a number of people were realizing what happened. These were the only ones that wanted to help Xepher in his time of peril just as he had done for them. Each one traveled to the Mystic City knowing that it was the place he “lived” at. What each didn’t know was how many others there were. They were all surprised and relieved at the 50 that were there. They made their way to the temple in the center of the deserted, overgrown city to find Xepher.
“what do you want?” Xepher said when he saw the group before him,”why are you here?”
“We all came to help you defeat these demons,”one of them replied.
“I can’t let you do that,” Xepher calmly said,”I could never forgive myself if anything happened to any of you.”
“You’ll just have to get over it, then. We’re coming anyway,”
“Whatever, just don’t die,” Xepher reluctantly agreed, “Follow me, if you’re gonna fight, you’ll need weapons.”
They did as he said and arrived at an old looking building. They all went inside, and the humans were surprised to find that the inside was not as old, but rather futuristic.
“Within this room... you can find any weapon imaginable, only they are all infused with holy energy and even a human can kill demons with these.” Xepher spoke.
“We’ll need ‘em then” one man joked, “what exactly do we have here?... swords, bows, axes, lances, staves, ooh shotgun is mine”
“Alright Jack, just take a weapon,” Xepher said a little irritated, “We need to hurry, we don’t have time to be picky about weapons. Hell is literally breaking loose”
As they exited the building, the sky grew pitch black, tornadoes spun up out of nowhere, it began to rain fire and brimstone. Xepher knew as well as everyone else. The Final Battle was at hand. And the demons were bringing the fight to them.
“On your toes!” Xepher shouted, “They’re here!”
“Indeed we are,” said a deep evil voice still hidden in the shadows, “Everybody, if it even looked like moved, kill it!”
From there a horrific, bloody battle ensued. Many demons were slain, many humans were wounded. One wolf-like demon leaped to attack one of the few ladies that picked up the sword for this fight. Luckily, Jack shot it down just before it ate her face. The evil thing’s head landed right at her feet.
“Oh my god, thank you!” the girl said, “You saved my life!”
She then drew back her bow.
“Hey no problem,” jack replied, “ Woah, what are you doing?” he shouted when he saw the bow.
She released the arrow right after, pinning a wyvern to a nearby tree.
“Taking good aim,” she replied, “We’re even. You saved my life, I just saved yours.”
Similar events continued with others until all the demons were slain. Then, the leader revealed himself from the shadows.
“Xody!” Xepher exclaimed, ”you were the leader of this group!”
“Of course, how else do you think we found you so easily?” this Xody demon replied, “It’s been a while Xepher. Didn’t expect to fight me from the other side again, did you?”
“Hey Xepher, who is this guy?” Jack asked, “Do know him?”
“Sadly yes, he was once a friend of mine,” Xepher answered, “before the Angelic War.”
“You mean he’s a fallen angel?”
“Exactly.”
“I wouldn’t want you to be upset, hurting your friend!” Jack exclaimed as he rushed toward Xody with a sword.
“JACK NO!” shouted Xepher
“Hell’s Blast!” Xody said as he extended his arm, palm outward.
Just then, Xody fired a blast of pure dark energy that destroyed Jack on the spot. Xepher then pulled out his sword and rushed to the area.
“I’ll kill you for good this time, Xody!”
“Only in your dreams, weak angel”
Xody fired an energy blast at Xepher, but Xepher took flight, dodged it and returned fire with a blast of light.
“Heaven’s Light!” Screamed Xepher.
“Agh! I hate you,”shouted Xody, “I gave you a chance, I tried to get you to join us, but you were too scared!”
“Fear had nothing to do with it, fool!” Xepher returned, “Unlike you I have honor! Everyone give me your swords.”
Everyone complied wondering why he asked such a thing. They realized soon enough when he fused them all with his own creating a much larger, stronger sword.
“He has a barrier, I know but this sword should has always been the only thing to break it,” Xepher thought as he rushed to Xody and slashed at a seemingly random place, and shattered the barrier.
“You knew,” Xody exclaimed knowing he was now defenseless.
“Of course, I helped you develop that barrier, I also know that now you are completely defenseless,” Xepher replied as he jumped to make his final slash.
The slash went right Xody just as expected, causing him to go up in a wisp of the dust that created him. Xepher then turned to everyone and told them.
“Today was probably the strangest day in any of your lives. You all insisted on picking up the sword and fighting with me. I was afraid you would get hurt or killed, and many of you were. I would like to thank you as best I can for all of your help. May we take moment now to remember those that unfortunately didn’t make it, because I will have to wipe your memories of all that has happened here and send you home.”
They stood silently and prayed for those that lost their lives in the battle. Xepher then waved his hand and everything was again clean and no one knew a thing of what happened as the sun rose. Before anyone could ask questions Xepher snapped his fingers sending everyone home.
Xepher then went to were the seal of Hell was, he had called for a team of angels to fix it, and decided to check the progress of the repairs.
The angel in charge noticed Xepher and came up to inform him of the progress. “Xepher, thank you for calling about the seal. We knew it had some minor damages, but the seal was almost gone! Progress is good though, we are almost finished with the repairs. Did you take care of the escapees?”
“Yes, they are all dead,” Xepher answered with a tear forming on his cheek.
