Some time ago, an old man was found living alone in the great "Dry Plain" among the old an decaying trees an dry river beds of the once verdant green land.

Finding him, it was told he was at first not very talkative but with a bit of interaction he opened up having not had anyone to talk to or be near in a very long time.

Note by the later stories told that he had not talked to any human being in nearly 50 years, just before the "Second Sunrise".

The second sun rose an everything burned even water and he only lived because he got into a cave which was only feet from his car which he had wrecked as the explosion erupted in the distance.

Once in the cave he baked, literally. The heat was so great he only kept cool enough in the water and pools deep in the caves even as the water nearly boiled and had vapor rising off it for a very long time while the outside world became charcoal.

And as for food at first he lived off fungus he put in the water an made broth an soup out of it an as things cool finally after a few months he managed crickets an cave fauna as even that came back more slowly.

An even then he had been so traumatized he still did not leave the cave for much longer amount of time.

In the time he had in the cave, it became his second life an home. He had explored an crudely mapped all but the furthest reaches of the caverns an many pools an deep creases within with primitive tools into the very cave walls around him.
