Yesterday was my first time performing a window chamber surgery! I felt quite..professional while wearing most of the medical garb, including the mask, coat, and sterilized gloves. (You aren't allowed to touch the outside of the gloves when putting them on. Here's a video if you're curious.) The only difficulties during the surgery was that the mouse started waking up..
And today, I practiced tail vein injections. In a mouse tail, there are three major veins you can use. My lab prefers using the two side veins, but whenever I practiced, I only successfully injected twice in the side veins. On the other hand, when I tried the top vein, which was apparently more difficult (?), I got 6/10 of the injections. xD Go figure.
Now, I'm quite tired. The mouse on which I practiced the injections was scheduled for euthanasia (the reason why I could practice). Poor thing had a huge flank tumor that was already ulcerated and showed signs of necrosis.
