The wolf in the snow

Stories tell of a man lost within the cold of the north. He searched for days finding no one and nothing to help him live. Eventually he found a wolf spirit. The spirit was a large wolf with yellow glowing eyes. It's fur as white as the snow around it. The Spirit looked to the man before running off. The man chose to follow running with the strength he had left he came to an old forgotten pass. There the spirit stood looking down at the man. "Do you wish to live?" The spirit asked it's voice was kind and seemed to come from everywhere rather than just the wolf. A calming almost motherly tone to the voice that one would hear after returning home. Home. thoughts of that place drifted back to the man. the warm hearth with a fire cracking within it. His wife happy and smiling as she brought him a warm meal to remove the chill from his bones. Their child a small girl barley four years of age with her bright blue eyes and kind smile. The man looked to the wolf and shakily stood from where he had fallen. "Yes I'll do anything" The man said. With that the wolf howled snow and ice floating into the air around them and spinning quickly around the pair. The man lost sight of the wolf but felt the sting of the cold almost burning to the touch a sharp pain in the center of his chest suddenly rang through him. once the sudden storm had ended the man stood alone but changed. he looked over himself seeing the wolf had merged to him. his black hair stood the same but now he was as pale as snow his hands clawed slightly he looked to the sky and let out a howl that could shake the mountains. Unable to return home like this the man lives in that forgotten pass silently guiding travelers so they do not share a fate worse then his own. his golden eyes piercing the worst of storms as he keeps watch over the poor travels lost in the storms and snow. Hoping one day he may return to his family
