To Don who encouraged me to write a western. Here it is!
ACKNOWLEDGMENTS
I would like to acknowledge all of the people who helped me reach this state of stability I am now in that I might be able to do this, and the people who put with me as I write, Jessie and Marty, and the special encouragement from people like Don and Grant who encouraged me so very much along the way, and even my cat Tigerless who demanded I take breaks in order not to ignore her altogether. Thank you all.
PROLOGUE
He rode into a small town in Dakota one day
He was riding a stallion they said was a bay
He had on white trousers, white shirt and white hat
But no one would swear there was meaning to that
For the children ran crying with fear from their play
But the ladies all smiled a most unusual way
And no man's wife would refuse his lust
And when word got around his killing was a must
So they tried to lynch him one Saturday
But with the help of the sheriff he got clean away
And not a word was heard of that stranger's flight
Until a full two years later on a cold winter's night
Well old Ole was a rancher right near town
And he had the prettiest woman for miles around
Well Ole was riding in from the range
When he noticed his homestead look sort of strange
So he went around back and there he found that bay horse
Yes sir, that's right you guessed it the stranger's of course
Well through the front door old Ole came
His guns were a blazing the stranger's the same
And they buried Ole in the old church yard
And took up the trail of the stranger through fresh snow made the tracking real hard
And it was near the Minnesota line that the posse turned back
Leaving only the sheriff still on the track
And it was in that states most northern part
That the sheriff heard a story so close to his heart
Well it seems that a stranger rode into that town one day
He was riding a stallion they said way a bay
He had on white trousers, white shirt, and white hat
But no one would swear there was meaning to that
For the children ran crying with fear from their play
And the ladies all smiled a most unusual way
And again no man's wife would refuse his lust
And when the word got around why his killing was a must
But this is where the story changes it course
For all that is left of that stranger is a dancing bay horse
Well it seems that the ladies wouldn't let the stranger hang
So they crucified him while all the church belles sang!
And the moral of this story is that when you're catting around
Don't sleep with all of the ladies there's single ones in dang near any town!
