It is of Hebrew origin, and the meaning of Caleb is "faith, devotion, whole hearted". Biblical: Caleb, a companion of Moses and Joshua, was noted for his astute powers of observation and fearlessness in the face of overwhelming odds; his devotion to God is symbolized by the "dog" in some traditions.

Notes on Caleb:
Full name: Caleb Chaturvedi
Practiced in yogi and Catholicism.
Age: over 50.
Brown eyes, Lank locks of hair, wrinkled features, adorned in meru beads, silver chakrams and a crucifix.
Smokes and is likely feeling the effects of his vice.
Coughed up bloody phlegm in the Hellsing kill house.
So far he appears to be much like his name sake, astute and fearless being the most noticeable. His devotion to God could be called into question. Seeing that he has picked up much of the yogi ways. This could be yet another reason why he muttered the phrase, “Irony incarnate,” Other possible reasons are that yogis value good health and he intentionally damaging himself.

Of course simply the situation he is in could cause him to feel a since of irony. If this is the case he is foreshadowing his own death. His death is necessary to begin the chain of events. To obtain the justice he seeks. Ultimately his path punishes the guilty but not before punishing himself and helping his enemy.

Caleb's Mother was murdered in the church he attended.
Caleb believes there is something living with in Alucard. Something that Alucard likely consumed or devoured. This thing could be a sinister being that Alucard had done battle with. It could very well be what Caleb is after.

The voice: We are still not certain of it's identity or how it relates to the events. It does however it seems quite pleased to comment in a most suspicious manner.
