New Life
I don't know how this started...
I'm here, in this den, surrounded by fur and musk
I don't know how I got here...
Bedded down in twigs, deer hide, and moss
I take a deep breath to clear my head...
And a shudder runs through my body
Closing my eyes, a whimper slips through my lips...
My body shaking as another pain takes me
I lay my muzzle on my paws...
And hear the pacing of a large black wolf outside
What did I do to deserve this...
To be in this warm underground lair
With a shuddering sigh I hear a cry not my own...
As I bring my first pup into the world
He is strong like his father...
With a pounding heart full of life
I let a growl out from deep in my throat...
I hear paws scrabbling at the entrance to MY den
Taking a second deep breath, I feel another pup moving inside me...
She comes into the world with a tiny little howl
I hear my mate's worried whines...
But I am not ready for him to meet his young
How did I get so lucky...
To be given his love and these two precious pups?
