Kottan Belle's Adventure to the Windmill
It was a bright morning. Kottan woke up to the sound of birds chirping. She stretched her arms out, and looked to her left. The shutters on her window were closed. She slid the sheets off of her legs, and placed her feet on the wood floor. As she stood, the old floorboards creaked.
The floor was dusty, and it was cold. Her cottage wasn't big, but it was just her and her Pygmy Sheep, Puff. Pygmy Sheep are just like regular sheep, except they're only about the size of your head, and worth millions on the black market for their exceptional wool.
She had always lived alone, accompanied only by the animals in the surrounding forest. But it wasn't any of that Disney crap where the birds would sing with her, and clean her house.
She tiptoed across the floor and opened the shutters. Sunlight poured into the room. Dust particles floated around in the air. Kottan yawned, and shielded her eyes from the light. She changed out of her nightgown, and into her favorite dress. It was given to her by an old friend, and she adored it. It was yellow, with ruffles that went all the way to the floor, like flower petals.
She shifted the dress, so that the slits in the back aligned with her wings, so they could move around freely. She grabbed a black ribbon from her nightstand and pulled all her hair to one side, and twisted it into a side ponytail. She carefully wrapped the ribbon around it, holding it in place.
Puff wandered into the room, and let out a soft "Baaaaa!". Kottan bent down and scooped him up in her hands.
"Oh Puff, what would I do without you?" she said, as they touched noses. Puff appeared to smile.
Then there was a knock at the door. Kottan stood up. She slowly walked down the stairs toward the front door. Another knock.
"I'm coming! Hang on!" she announced. Puff "Baa'd" in agreement from her shoulder.
She opened the door.
"Hello?" she asked accusingly.
The man at the door wore a dark hood and robe. His face could barely be seen. He raised a finger toward her shoulder.
"Is that a Pygmy Sheep?" he asked angrily.
"Yes" she replied, "but I don't see why that-"
The man didn't wait for her to finish her sentence. His hand set off a dark aura, and he placed it on her forehead. She could feel herself growing faint, then she couldn't feel Puff anymore. She opened her mouth to protest, but nothing came out. She felt her consciousness coming back. She shook her head to clear her mind, just in time to see the hooded figure running away, Puff "Baaaing" in protest.
"No!" Kottan screamed "Puff!"
She tried to run after him, but he was much too fast, and she didn't have shoes. He wings fluttered and she rose several inches off the ground. Kottan flew over the top of a hill in time to see the man disappear into a dark forest. Kottan stopped to catch her breath. She wasn't used to flying, and it was tiring her out quickly. 5 seconds later, she was back in pursuit.
Entering the forest, visibility was cut in half. It was almost pitch black in the forest, with only minuscule rays of light peeking through breaks in the black trees. Her eyes adjusted to the lack of sunlight. She heard Puff's faint cries far up ahead.
Branches stuck out everywhere, snagging on her dress. Normally she would've turned around, but she had to get Puff. Her wings were tired, so she continued on foot. By the time she saw sunlight, her feet were sore. She was sweating, and her dress was rumpled, but she continued on. She came to the edge of the forest and leaned against a tree, catching her breath once again. All she could see were blue skies, a meadow, and a large windmill. The winding dirt path continued on from the forest to the front door of the windmill.
She could hear Puff's faint cries from what seemed to be the inside of the windmill.
"Oh Puff" she thought, "I'm going to get you back, whatever it takes!".
