Black Dye [Finished Story]
In a place above the mortal world, everything is at peace. The wind flew freely and the beings that inhabited it were all free from fear. All that inhabited the kingdom of heaven were blessed and saved from the temptation of sin. Near a brook, a child of the rainbow plays. She is so blooming with glee. Her rainbow-colored hair lighted up the area so white. The color of purity was all that could be seen. But this child of the rainbow was blissfully unaware that she alone lit up the dull area. Indeed, everything in heaven was beautiful and made with such intricacy that cannot be surpassed by mortal hand. No being was fortunate to have the power to bring child-like energy to heaven but the child of the rainbow and yet, she was blissfully unaware. The young lady walked the banks of the stream, everyday, she did. She could see her own reflection staring back. What a fair child she was, loved and envied by all. Her supple hair was dappled by color. She was beautiful, a favorite of her father. In a split second, the peace was disturbed when a young man a few years older approached her. He sat down quietly by her side but she did not object despite the fact that he looked suspicious. By the way he looked, he did not belong in heaven. He was most certainly odd. “Evareena.” the man spoke softly but with conviction
Evareena stared at him for a few seconds before speaking.
“Young man, you are very queer. Why are you wearing a black robe? You know black is the color of the devil”
“Well, I’m very sorry. I guess I’m new here. I had no idea”
“What is your name?”
“Vincent.”
Their talk was interrupted by a brief moment of silence. Evareena stood up pale and weary of her companion. She looked at him without uttering a word. All of a sudden, she felt that she was in danger. She knew something.
“If you are a clean soul, you would be dressed in white robes!” she paused examining her companion. “You should have passed through from the gates of heaven but you didn’t, did you? Only the purified are allowed here!” He stood up as well presenting his case. “And you, Evareena. You are blessed to be born here. You needed no purification, did you?” he interrupted himself with the twitch of a finger.
“Fair child of the rainbow!” he chuckled. “Envied by all.”
Evareena attempted to escape but Vincent was able to grab a hold of the seam of her dress. He pushed her into the stream and they both disappeared from sight. Suddenly, heaven was bleak. It felt like a night without the moon or stars. Never again will they see the child of the rainbow prance around in a silken dress, while her hair flowed freely with the cold breeze.
The child of the rainbow found herself in a place unlike anything she has ever seen. It was not like the hopeless mortal world that she so loved to watch from the clouds above. It was dull and dreary like the deepest part of a cave. There was no light but the air was filled with sound. The eerie noises filled her mind with fear while the dense air made her spirit drop. It was said that leaving hell was impossible and this thought brought her to tears. It was unmistakable. She was certainly in hell and she was alone. The odd voices tormented her but running was no use. She was exhausted and tired but the pain that inflicted hair made it impossible to sleep. This place screamed death over and over again. She fell onto the rough ground. Her blood spilled onto her face and clothes. The blood continued flowing onto her hair. She could not believe that such pain was possible and yet her cries for help were not answered.
Evareena crawled in the dark, looking for anything to hold on to. Her clothes were tattered and the bruises of never-ending despair covered her pretty face. She desperately tried to find a way out but there was no hope. The bloody child held on to something that stunned her. It was hard and set half-buried in the ground. She held on to it, gasping for air. She sobbed, raising herself up on the strange object. A strange figure arose in her way. She gaped at the figure standing three feet tall. This was certainly not something anyone would find in heaven or on Earth.
“Father’s sword…” the child-like icon spoke.
Evareena wiped her tears and asked. “I’m sorry, what?”
“This is my father’s sword. He told me to guard it before he left.” The infant demon gazed at Evareena. “Can you get it out? It’s yours if you can.”
Ever so eager to please, she tried to get up even though her injuries kept her from standing upright. She grabbed the sword handle and tried to pull it out with all the strength she could muster. Slowly, it was detached from it’s sandy grave. She tried to hand it over to the miniature demon but it just shook it’s head.
“You pulled it out. It’s yours. What on earth would I do with something that huge?” it paused. “Surely, you’ll only need that if you want to escape from hell. Why would I do that? I live here.”
“Escape? There’s a way out?” Evareena asked with such enthusiasm.
It explained what to do to escape. It turns out, the gates of hell were guarded by demons and that it would be double suicide for a girl her age to do so. It would mean certain death to be at war with hell. Evareena threw down the sword with such remarkable disappointment, you would think it would be possible that a child of heaven could “hate”. She was in a state of shock, ignoring everything including the silent whips of hell.
“Why are they hurting me?” Evareena whined. “They only hurt those who commit sins. I have done no wrong.”
“Maybe that is why they hurt you. There is your sin right there!” the child spoke with dignity.“You’re too vain.”
“Me? Vain? Ha!” she mocked her helper.
“Being a child of heaven doesn’t make you any better than me. Divine beings do wrong too!”
”Yeah? What wrong?”
“Being too rigid! They may be immortal but the way they live makes it useless to live at all!”
“Oh! Well you…On the other hand…” she chuckled. “I’ve got nothing.”
“I think you’re right. Heaven is too rigid. Was I blind to that because we all seemed contented by the same thing?” she paused. “What do they call you?”
“Alrunette. You?”
“Evereena”
“Let’s go.” Evareena said with such a cool demeanor. “We’re getting out of hell.”
“Did I mention it would take years to beat all the demons?”
“The better it is to start now.”
Alrunette followed her, sighing. Their quest began with finding a new dawn to replace what was lost. The deepening sorrow no longer afflicted Evareena. It was now the new scorch of hatred that filled her thoughts and influenced her every movement.
“You are a child of heaven. If so, what are you?” Alrunette asked.
“I’m the daughter of the rainbow.” She said calmly.
“But your hair, it’s… losing it’s colors?”
Evareena examined her hair thoroughly, finding that most of it was turned black, all that was drenched in her own blood. “I see, heaven is closing its doors on me.” She said with a joking grin. Part 2~
After several years, heaven was still silent. The somber earth was awakened by the rising sun, it’s rays striking all that was on the surface of this “wretched” earth. A small hole was poked from the ground below. Indeed, there were some who still yearned to see the majestic sun rise, brightening the velveteen sky. Evareena emerged from the ground barely the same as she was before the incident. She was unrecognizable partly because of the hatred visible in her eyes. Her long locks of black hair surrounded her pretty face. Her skin was white as snow and she was pale. Alrunette followed shortly after her. His eyes were blinded by the intense beam of light, streaming down from heaven. It was the first time this demon has seen light.
“Alrunette, look! It’s beautiful.”
“Don’t you think I’ll die if I open my eyes?”
“No, Rune. That’s just a rumor. They said a child born of light will die if it is engulfed by darkness, am I dead?” she asked sarcastically.
“I suppose not. Umm… Undead?”
Evareena took a jewel out from the side pocket of her tattered clothes. She looked at it, approximating its size and whether or not she could sell it for a good price.
“Oh cool, did you get that from the bottom?”
“Yeah. Humans like this, right?”
“It’s a pink diamond. I’m sure they’ll want it very bad.”
Evareena was able to use the diamond to obtain 6 million dollars. You could just imagine how grand her house was and other things she bought. Asides from that, her tattered clothes were also auctioned for 3 million dollars because of the divine material it was made of. She was able to escape hell and live a pampered life on earth but she stilled yearned for more. Deep in her heart, she knew that she wanted to take revenge on the one who threw her down to hell. She wanted to appeal to heaven as well. She wanted to go back. She escaped from hell with a bloody sword and a demon by her side. She knew she could do anything.
“So, Eva, this is what heaven looks like?”
“Pretty much.”
“Are you going to look for him? That Vincent guy?”
“I’ve already got people looking for him.”
“Yeah, but don’t you want to kill him yourself without anyone knowing?”
“No, I want to capture him and appeal to heaven that I am a very forgiving person.”
She went to a chapel to ask for redemption. She tried endlessly to talk to her father. She called for him several times but no response. But today, there was a flash of multihued light that visited her. She was not afraid at all. She knew her father by heart.
“Father…”
“You are not my child.”
“Why not? I am still Evareena! Your favorite daughter!”
“You are still vain, child. Ignorant of the world, you have always been!”
“Is that why you won’t let me go back to heaven?”
“Heaven? Heaven was destroyed shortly after your departure. Is it not you who ordered for it’s destruction in the first place? Were you not the one who initiated its destruction?”
Evareena was puzzled. She looked at the godly figure as it gazed at her mournfully. “No. I don’t know what you’re talking about. I don’t know who you are.”
She walked away. “Blaming me for the destruction of heaven!” She turned to face him. “Couldn’t you at least be happy? That your daughter… escaped from hell! Couldn’t you greet me with ‘I missed you’ instead of saying ‘you’re not my daughter.’? It hurts. You only want to hurt me! Well, I am strong now! I won’t get hurt.” In a fiery blaze, she set out to kill her captor. She wanted to find the truth about what he did. She was ready to face anything at all.’ She did not take heed from anyone. She only wanted revenge. Nothing could stop her from finding him until at last, she did. She found him walking in an open field.
“Hello, Vincent.”
“Evareena?”
“I’m glad you still remember the person you sent to hell.”
“You escaped? I’m so relieved!”
“Relieved that you ruined my life?” “No. I didn’t mean to send you there. I didn’t know where you were. I’ve been looking for you.”
“I’ve been looking for you too.” She raised her hand intent to kill him but she examined his clothes and realized something. “Wait, I think I still have a use for you.”
She dragged him by the hand tightly, not giving explanation to why she did so. He followed without uttering a word. This girl escaped from hell. It was certain that she could end his life swiftly.
“Where are we going?”
“We’re getting married.”
“What?”
“I’m going to kill you anyway. I might as well benefit from it. You’re wealthy. Surely, you don’t have heirs anyway so I’ll be glad to get it off your hands.”
She walked down the isle in a black dress and sword in hand. Alrunette happily threw flower petals in the air. It looked like blood falling down from the sky. It was both a wedding and a funeral to all or any at all who understood the outcome of events that preceded to form the events of this day.
“Why are you doing this?”
“it’s just a ceremony. It’s a human thing, that’s for sure. Neither of us are human so it doesn’t matter.”
“I’ve always loved you, Evareena.”
“Good, then you can live your dream for five minutes.”
After the hasty ceremony, the priest left not knowing what was going on. The bride and groom walked into “their” backyard for a “honeymoon”. It was quite hard to believe what she wanted was death all over again. She forced him to kneel. Afterwards, she drew her sword, smiling at him. The atmosphere was heavy but she didn’t care. All she wanted was to avenge heaven.
“Before you die, is there anything you want to say to me?”
“I only tried to save you from the destruction of heaven.”
“Save me? Why would you do that? You don’t even know me.”
“Evareena, everyone knows you… Everyone loves you… But I have always loved you most. That’s why I…” he paused. “I stand at the gates of heaven, always waiting to see you. When I knew that heaven was going to be destroyed, I- I came to save you.”
“Save me from heaven? Send me to hell?”
“Your only crime is your vanity but I will cater to your every need if only you did not pull away from me.”
“You knew of heaven’s destruction and you did not save everyone else?”
“Listen to me. I’m not welcome in heaven. It was hard to break in. If I had the chance, I’ll do it all over again because I’ve always loved you. Heaven had no hope.”
“Vincent, you?”
“I would do it again. I love you even if you kill me now.”
“You did not know that heaven would be destroyed?” Alrunette asked her. “Everyone knew of this apocalypse. There is no hope for heaven.”
Knowing that what she feared was true, she gaped at him. It was like being saved from herself. The promises of heaven were too great indeed. She stood speechless.
Vincent leaned over to kiss her.
