Taking a step backward, Aricus said, "Fine. I will let them live--for now."

"You tell the rest of your kind they are not welcome here," Lord Avondale said. "If I see so much as a chipped scale anywhere, there will be hell to pay."

Growling, Aricus turned into his dragon form and took off.

Setting Shalimar down, I said to my guardians, "Take her back to the house, please?" To Shalimar, I said, "Go with them, honey. I need to talk to Lord Avondale."

"Otay," Shalimar said, walking off carrying Fluffy while the rest of my guardians created an honor guard around her.

Turning to face Lord Avondale, I regarded him for a long moment. Rushing forward to attack, I said, "I thought you were dead!"

Easily dodging my fists, Lord Avondale said, "It was in your best interests to believe I was."

"WHY!?"

"To protect you from harm, my xyojaty."

"Bull--!" I started to say when Lord Avondale struck me across the mouth. Spinning to the right, I crashed to the ground. Stunned for a moment, I lay where I landed. "That isn't a good enough excuse. I saw you as my kuymaw because you were the closest thing I had to one and YOU MADE ME BELIVE YOU WERE DEAD!"

Gently lifting me off the ground, Lord Avondale said, "You saw me as your father?"

Shoving him away, I snarled, "Yes I did! My real father had died when I was Shal's age because of me and you were the next thing I had to a father figure!!"

After a pause, Lord Avondale said, "Is that everything?"

Running to Lord Avondale, I hugged him and started crying for everything that has happened so far this month and the things I knew were yet to come. Shocked that I was crying for the first time in my life, Lord Avondale held his arms stiffly out to the sides for a few moments before gently placing them on my shoulders.

Kneeling so he was eye to eye with me, Lord Avondale said, "Dragon, had I known all this would be happening, I would have never dissappeared. I would never have left you completely alone like this to fight Orsnic on your own. But I promise that I will stay until you're back on your feet and back to the way you were before all this started."
