Summary: It's not normally possible right? It's impossible; to have one soul occupy two bodies. But for Shizuka Ai and Misaki Jay, it's possible. Since they were born, they have been the same person, having the same soul. It's probably difficult for anyone to comprehend this, but as one is asleep, the other will be awake, and so on. How can a person live this way?

- To fall over in class and suddenly wake up in another body is not uncommon for me.
"Jay! Jay! Get up!"
I felt someone kick me hard in the back. I was immediately awoken from the pain and cried out.
"Who the-!?"
It's dark, but I can still make out his face: it's Mr. Shigi.
"They're giving out leftovers at the bakery, let's go!"
"Mr. Shigi..." I was feeling dizzy from waking up too abruptly. It felt really awful.
"You go ahead, I'll catch up."
"Okay, but you better hurry."
I see him quickly trying to catch up with the other few men leaving. After he leaves I try to go back to sleep, but no matter how many times I try to get comfortable it's just no good.
I remove the newspapers and decide to go to the bakery for a little breakfast.
The ground littered with newspapers and cardboardboxes was where Jay slept every day. Only 15 years years old, she's homeless and has no relatives. It's a rare sight, but there's a reason for this.
Jay goes around the corner and spots the bakery. She goes around the back. Mr. Shigi is in line, waiting for his share. I also get in line.
The owner of the bakery is a nice man. I don't know his name, but I call him Mr. Nabe because the first time I saw him, he treated me to a hotpot.
It came time for me to recieve my share; a slice of stale bread.
"How have you been doing?"
"I've been doing fine, Mr. Nabe."
"You know, that offer is still up if you change your mind."
"No, really, I'm fine."
He looks at me with a concerned face and reluctantly accepts my decision for today, but he's probably going to ask about it the next time I come around.
He really is a nice person, but if he were to adopt me, that would be a problem, since I'm normally asleep during the day, because I have a secret. There are two of me. After I'm done feeding this me, I have to go back to sleep; to the other me.
As I head towards the park, I gobble up the stale bread.
Jay sits down on a bench after eating up the bread. She folds her arms and legs after pulling down her hat and goes to sleep.
I silently moan from the pain, and the nurse gets up to see me.
"Are you alright Ai-chan?"
I look at her for a moment before talking and smile, "I'm fine Shimura-sensei."
She looks at me with disbelief.
"This is your third time this month. You should have that anemia checked out again."
"I will, don't worry."
With a doubtful face, she returns to her work. I lay back in the bed and stare at the ceiling.
When this body is asleep, the other will awake and when this body is awake, the other will sleep. It's been that way since I have remembered.
When I used to talk about it, they would think a little kid was making things up. This body is known as Shizuka Ai, the anemic girl who no one wants to be friends with. The other is Misaki Jay, a homeless orphan.
In Jay's body, I ran away from the orphanage. Afterall, I can't be awake at the same time. Logically, it should be Ai who is awake most of the time.
Sometimes I think that Jay would be moving when I was in Ai or the other way around. I was hoping, maybe, that there would be someone in the same predicament as I'm in, but that's not true. I've looked at myself sleep, and I'm just one soul of two bodies.
"Ai-chan, do you want to leave? It's almost time for classes to end anyway."
"Really? Was I asleep for that long?"
"It's just lunch time, but I doubt that there's anything for you to learn after what just happened. You should go home and rest."
"Ahn."
I get up from the bed. It's so much more comfortable than the concrete I sleep on in Jay's body. Classes are still being taught. I can't help but be envious of those people like them.
Ai arrives in the park and finds Jay sitting and still sleeping. She sits down beside her and takes out a lunchbox filled with rice and other foods.
Ai tries to relax. She folds her arms and legs and commences to sleep.
Jay wakes up, picks up the lunchbox and begins to eat. Halfway through the meal she looks at Ai.
Why do things have to be like this?
She continues to eat until she is satisfied.
Two people, one soul...
I remember, the mother of the orphanage told me that I was sleeping when I was born, then I started to cry after being slapped on the butt. Ai's mother, my mother, said that I cried when I was born, but then I quieted down soon after. That, to me, confirmed that I was actually two people.
To know that, was exciting yet frightening. I thought the whole business through. At six years old I ran away from the orphanage. I knew exactly what I was doing.
It started to get dark as I was remembering all these feelings within me.
Jay puts away the lunchbox into the bag and pauses for a moment.
Should I take a shower?
She sniffs herself, then grabs the bag and gets Ai onto her back.
Walking home was strange. It attracted dirty looks. The way Jay was dressed, carrying a school girl was very strange indeed.
"Hey you."
Someone was talking to me? I turn around. It's a boy about my age weraing a uniform from Ai's achool, my school.
"Do you need something?"
He's surprised to see me pay no mind to his assertiveness, but quickly recovers his look of confidence.
"If you were trying to kidnap that girl, you could have at acted the part."
"What? Am I some sort of trafficker? I can't just help take a girl home?"
Whispers of doubt can be heard throughout the scene. People looked at her and imagined horrid things.
"Look at her. It's obvious the girl's drugged."
"She's just a heavy sleeper. She's a friend- err..."
No way a student from an elite school like Ai would be friends with a bum. What kind of excuse can I make up? He's really putting me on the spot here.
"Are you admitting what you are?"
Jay sighs, "I don't need this." She walks away but is stopped by a strong grip tearing into her shoulder.
"Wait."
"Hey, that hurts."
"Let the girl go."
This person is too unreasonable. What kind of kidnapper would I be if I just carried off someone like this in the middle of the streets? But if this continues, the police will get involved. ANd, if they decide to question the both of me...
I must make a rash decision.
"Are you going to let go or not?"
"Huh?"
Jay breaks free of his grip and launches a kick that knocks him back, but he is unphased.
"Now you resort to violence?! You Kidnapper!"
He goes in with a jab, but Jay spins to avoid and lands a kick to his side. He falls.
This is my chance!
Jay quickly runs away into the crowd, all eyes on her until she disappears into an alley way. The young boy takes out his phone and dials for the police.
"Police, there's been a kidnapping at this address."
Jay arrives at Ai's house and enters. She sets her gently on the couch and goes to take a quick shower, but not before washing her clothes. After taking a shower, she places Ai onto the bed.
"I guess I can take a shower tomorrow morning."
Jay tucks Ai in and disappears into the night. After going down a series of roads she enters a night club from the back.
"Hey everyone!"
Everyone greets her with a warm smile and Jay proceeds to the back room where she changes into a waitress' uniform.
"Jay, take these to table 4."
"Gotcha."
Jay takes the plates of food to the table with a smile. No one would think she was anything but an ordinary girl. Though she looked a little young, no one paid any mind to that.
By the next morning, Jay retreated back to the outskirts of the city where she sleeps unbothered for the rest of the day. Ai awakens and stretches. She looks in the mirror.
My clothes are a little wrinkled... I think I'll just take a shower.
The time is 5:08 am.
Ai exits the bathroom with wet hair, but her uniform is still wrinkled. She heads downstairs where she can hear the sounds of breakfast being made.
"Good morning mom."
"Good morning," she says.
Ai takes a seat and starts nibbling on some toast.
Her father comes in and takes a seat as well.
"Good morning dad."
"Good morning," he says.
Sitting in the middle of the silence was very tiring and I left soon after for school. I'm a little early, but that's not going to do anything to my record.
(to be continued)
(if you liked this, please comment, I'm really fond of this idea.)
