The ones near each other are a "series." HTBB involves Hiccup and the others getting banished from Berk. HTCLS is the sequel where a hunky new viking and his girl friend come to the island. HTBHFR is the sequel to that where Hiccup and other viking heirs are kidnapped.
HTSYO is a competition between Berk and their rivals, Kreb. HTSYOA is the sequel where Kreb and Berk are about to go to war with each other.
HTSAVT is actually related to the first 3, but kind of separate. Hiccup and friends have to help old foes save their tribe.
