Pewter Gym was a large building made of dull gray stone. The interior was lined with stone and had what looked to be a nice carpet adorned with several arenas shaped like a wrestling or Boxing ring. The format of the fights was simple- four blocks of twelve trainers, then a four trainer semifinal block. The winner of the semifinal block would fight the leader and receive the Boulder Badge. Zane and aria breezed through D block easily, having done large amounts of training in the forest on the way to be prepared for the gym- Flare, the Charmander, had even evolved in a battle against a Butterfree. His current opponent was a young man with a dark look in his eye. "I dont know what pokemon that is kid," his opponent said, referring to Arina. "but you should quit now and save it the trouble of getting beaten." "..." Zane looked at Arina questioningly. [I can take a few more- Im not sure if Blaze has Metal Claw down fully yet though.] Zane nodded to Arina and waited for the referee's signal. From simple clues, Zane found that the trainer had three pokemon, one poison, one ground, and one bug. "Begin!" The trainer led with a Beedrill. "Twin Needle!" Zane began his calculations. "Arina, Left, Forward six degrees, Confusion!" Arina used telekinesis to force herself out of the way of the first jab, and leaned forward just enough to dodge the second, then released the attack point blank into the opponent's head. The Opposing pokemon reeled a bit, as if in shock, and hit the ground heavily. "Beedrill is unable to battle, send out your second pokemon." the referee stated. "You'll pay for that punk..." the trainer muttered as he returned the Beedrill to the pokeball. "Weezing!" Zane blinked at the trainer's choice- Poison types were weak against psychic types. "Weezing, Smokescreen!" [Zane!] Arina's voice sounded scared. "Ari, back." Zane said, getting a bad feeling. He couldnt see the Weezing, and that trainer seemed a bit dangerous. The Kirlia had almost made it back to her trainer when the Weezing had shot a Sludge Bomb into her from behind, sending her flying and sprawled in front of Zane. Rushing over to the Kirlia, he checked to see if she was alright. There were cuts and scrapes from the bomb, and she was badly poisoned. He used an antidote, and set her off to the side gently- luckily she'd been knocked unconscious and wasnt feeling the pain. "Zane's pokemon has been rendered unable to battle. Send out your second pokemon." Zane was seeing red as he sent out Flare. Somehow, this had channeled to his second pokemon, as it looked near feral, and the flame on its tail was burning blue. "Flare, Incinerate." He ordered the Charmeleon, who then released a roar of rage and released a hellish sea of flame from its maw, wiping away the smoke, pokemon, and part of the ring with its intensity. The Weezing was smoldering on the ground, barely alive. The gym was quiet as the spectators that had been cheering only seconds before stared at the sheer destruction caused by the pokemon. Mutters of amazement and fear circled through the crowd. The referee stuttered as he gave his announcement, "W-weezing has been r-rendered unable to battle, victory goes to Zane, and his Flare." Flare snorted out flames at the referee, and did not fight to remain out of its pokeball. He picked up Arina gently and began to exit the room. As he got off the stage, the head ref looked at him and cringed. "You can go get her healed, but you will be disqualified if you havent returned by your next match." Zane pushed past the man.
"She'll be fine, she just needs some rest." the nurse told him after thirty minutes of waiting. "You can leave her here, and we'll take care of her until you return if you'd like." Zane hesitated, he still had a match, but Arina was more important than that- but if she was okay, she'd be irritated that he hadn't won the match after. The nurse looked at him understandingly. "Dont worry- its not often we get trainers like you. We'll take good care of her, and she should be fine after your next match." Zane nodded a thank you and ran back to the gym, pushing down a feeling of danger. So focused on getting to the gym, he didnt notice the person around the corner watching him leave the pokemon center....
