What have I been reading? More Sharpes and The Fall, which is the sequel to The Strain. I loved The Strain, which is both a classic outbreak novel and an old school vampire horror novel, with a large cast of interesting characters. The Fall, well, it underutilized the only female character left. The other characters were still charming and interesting, and I really liked Angel, one of the people added this novel. The problem is the plot, honestly. This is way clunkier, and I'm not sure I like where this is going. mostly, I'm seeing your classic middle of a trilogy problems with this book. It's still quite readable, it's just not nearly as strong as the first one. To be clear, this isn't high art; it's fast reading horror novel fare. I do plan on hanging in to see what happens, even if I do feel a little let down. also, props to the authors for willingness to kill off central characters. It takes guts.
