People mock "one hit wonders." Sure, it's better to produce a whole carrier of music, or create one brilliant nigh perfect album, or whatever, but think about what a one hit wonder is. Someone, or a group of someones managed to put together one perfect combination of a unique grab your hind brain tune and a set of lyrics that capture a piece of the zeitgeist. It's not a shabby thing at all to record something people with play and sing for decades, something that becomes background music in the consciousness of a generation or more.
That doesn't look mock worthy to me. It's not something I could do. It's not something most of us could do. It's a pretty incredible sort of alchemy when you think about it. It's like mocking someone for getting the bronze in the Olympics.
