So, on my day off I decided that I should actually visit the Ikea location in Brooklyn that I had never been to (I usually visit the one in Newark that requires taking a bus from Port Authority Bus Terminal). Got off at the 9th Street station and I went up to the street to transfer to the B61.
Things run smoothly until the bus driver finds the drawbridge is stuck--it won't go up nor down as it's stuck in an unsafe position, so we wait an hour while she radioed to dispatch about the bridge. Apparently, people on the bus were extremely stupid and thus could not recognize that none of this was the bus driver's fault and that she must adhere to MTA rules and regulations. One of the other, saner passengers offered to get off and see what's going on and from that, get her supervisor to escort the bus (otherwise she'd be breaking the law)...but of course there was this one passenger who, in my mind, shouldn't have even been on that bus.
This one passenger did nothing but complain and act like an immature p***k over her diabetes condition. I heard her say she was woken up at 6AM which told me she was homeless and of course she kept cursing at the bus driver. A few more other people kept whining and bitching to the bus driver, which pissed me off so much that I, along with the guy who got off to see what was wrong with the bridge got up there to defend her. Only the seemingly homeless complainer didn't shut up and of course she continued to yell at the driver AND me--I threatened to throw her cane out the bus window AND hold her under citizen's arrest unless she shut up and calmed down...and this was after the bus got moving again via supervisor-escorted detour.
Basically the bus trip was only three sane people (the bus driver, this one guy who I remember was wearing a doorag and I believe he said he's also a truck driver, and me) against a bunch of brainless people. Before I left the bus at Ikea, the bus driver told me she had never seen anyone so patient during such a serious bus delay as that other guy and me, so I wished her well before I got off--goes to show you Transit employees REALLY bust their asses doing what they gotta do and I urge everyone to treat all bus and train operators with respect. They're not the ones who call the shots and yet they get the blame for everything--that's the fault of the company they work for along with the union they're forced to join.

Ikea was obviously the more saner part of my day--a traditional-style Swedish Meatballs lunch along with being able to check out the various things all over Ikea really made my day. Came home with packets of Swedish Meatball Cream Sauce mix, a jar of Lingonberry jam, and of course a whole bag of frozen Swedish Meatballs.
That's pretty much my day in a nutshell--taking the Ikea shuttle bus back to 9th Street was more normal with the bus driver mentioning the bridge was still down. I immediately remembered and everyone in the bus asked me about what happened to the bridge...and so I told them the entire story.
And yay for the hot roast beef sandwich that I found on the table for me when I got back--that was a major surprise. >u<
