Aurora awoke to a blinding light that was peeking through the branches above her. She shielded the light with her right arm and with her left she propped herself upwards, her joints protesting the movement with cracks. She had slept on the ground the night before on sticks and rocks that jabbed at her unnatural skin. She was merely too exhausted to move the debris from under her. The redhead snapped her fingers and watched as a small flame erupted from her finger tips then dissipated soon after. She smiled at the sight of the fire.
The small girl stood slowly and stretched reaching her arms high over her head. She looked around remembering why she was there in the first place. She slowly let one arm fall to her side and with the other hand she traced the cut on her forehead. It was a bloody mess. Aurora could remember, but it was faint and distant, like a dream. She remembered the fire; people were running, they seemed frightened. She was knocked over in the midst of all the confusion and hit her head on the corner of a desk. She managed to make it out of the smoking building before any of the scientists noticed her absence.
