A mighty fine line
Between the last required step

See the miracles around you
Open up your eyes now,
See the beauty that surrounds you

By my opinion
The worst tradegy, I think,
Is the one that we all know about
But pretend we didn't see.

Though perhaps
It's so much worse for us
To go about our daily lives and
Not let ourselves feel.

A grunted 'Hello,'
A half-hearted 'Good-bye,'
A stiff formal handshake,
And don't look them in the eye.

Where are the connections,
The things that help us live?
Are we so afraid to be rejected
That we're afraid to give?

Where's the love that once was
Everywhere?
Who took it away,
And to where?

Are we now mechanical,
Too afraid to be ourselves,
Too scared to have some fun
And make fools of ourselves?

We watch the ways of children,
How they aren't afraid to say
What's going on inside their heads.
They think in their own way.

They aren't afraid to be themselves,
Or if anyone else sees.
They tell each other what they think
And what they want to be.

The children let themselves feel,
They aren't afraid to show
The things that they have learned today
And still wonder about tomorrow.

The children are the purest,
The embodiment of innocence.
But when we tell them to grow up,
We ruin them, in a sense.

This is the tragedy that we know,
That we pretend not to see.
We're scared to let ourselves feel,
And be what we want to be.
