Shugo Chara Life! chapter 2

"Mari?" said Yasahiro when she had gone limp. She looked as if she had also fainted.

Yasahiro sighed. He had felt like he'd lose his mind when he said that on the field, if his heart wouldn't burst before that. Especially when their eyes met, and he'd worried if she felt the same. Because, ever since she had arrived those years ago, he had wondered if it was love at first sight. It seemed like there was something about her, but he still didn't know what that was.

He approached the nurse's office and pushed the door open with his foot. He set Mari down on the cot and spoke to the nurse, explaining the situation, before sitting down.

Was it his fault Mari had been hurt? As the nurse examined her left ankle, he felt again the ache to know if Mari felt the same way as he did.

A faded pain still pierced my foot. Despite this, I felt oddly relaxed. I opened my eyes to see a blinding light, those of the school's regular, installed fixtures, and quickly closed my them again. I sat up and squinted at the nurse's computer, then saw Yasahiro near the foot of my cot.

Aah! How long had I been out cold?

He looked up at me and sighed. "I'm glad you're up. The nurse says your ankle is fine, but that you should try to take it easy, and not to stand on it too long."

"Okay... but why are you still here?" I wondered aloud, most likely curious if it was because he was worried.

"Um, I wanted to make sure you felt okay. Does it still hurt?"

"Just a litte bit." I said casually. "Not really."

"Okay, I've got to get to my next class. You should talk to the nurse, she'll be back in a minute." Yasahiro said, standing up and heading toward the door. "Take care," he said, flashing back a smile, and he left.

I finally blushed. I tried to distract myself, and pushed off the blanket to get up and test my injury. But there was something on the bed...

An egg? It looked like one, but it was probably a toy someone had left. It had two black stipes around it horizontally,which appeared painted on, but when I reached to pick it up they changed color to yellow. The egg was warm. "Did I lay an... egg?" I whispered aloud, to no one in particular.

The nurse entered, and I hid the egg behind my back. A note was written for me to be late to class so I could change into my clothes and get my bag from gym class.
