"...******** that...." the boy muttered, responding to the Reaper. "Im in." "Are you sure about this? There's turning back you know." the Reaper asked calmly. "Its not like I have much choice in the matter." "True, but I think you may come to regret it." "What is the big deal? "This takes you out of our jurisdiction Zakiel" it all seemed vaguely familiar . "I just think that you and Titrian will never truly become whole." "My memories from life wont be perfect... and Im guessing Im Zakiel?" he asked quietly. The reaper nodded and asked. "Are you ready?" Zakiel nodded and felt every cell in his body explode, as if each had turned into a star, and then gone supernova. Even with a soul's tolerance for pain, he blacked out.
Groggily he came to on a small cot. "First step's a doozy, huh?" an Asian looking man in a black cloak was sitting on a chair in the corner. "Who...?" Zakiel asked. His voice sounded... off. "Who am I? Who are you? Who's line is it anyway?" the man rattled off fast, not giving Zakiel a chance. "In order, Im Violent Death. I go pick up souls that were murdered, executed, or fell in war. You are Zakiel, the second One Soul to exist, and Drew Carey's the one whom the line belongs to." Zakiel blinked at him. Drew Carey... he was a..... Comedian? Not important. "Why-?" "Why am I here? Partly because I hate my job, its full of people who love to b***h and complain. The other part is to teach you what your job is, and make sure you get your basic equipment." Zakiel blinked again. This man was either high strung, or used to dominating conversations. Watching the reaper tap his foot, he assumed a bit of both. Violent stood up and dragged Zakiel to his feet. "First things first, The here and now." almost dragging Zakiel along, the Reaper moved out the doorway, which had simply appeared. "Purgatory is where the reapers take souls before they're sorted. Some go to heaven, some to hell, some get reborn and some stay here." he looked at Zakiel as they moved to see if he understood so far. "Alright, Zak, on to the social classes!" The scenery melted and redid itself as to be in front of a large black building. "Purgatory is separated into various sections by the reapers. At the Top of the food chain are Two Classes, We the reapers, and you the One Soul...s. We are the worker bees, you're the seek and destroy bee." "What do you mean 'seek and destroy'?" Zakiel asked, liking the nickname the Reaper had given him. Violent thought for a second. "Ok...." he raised one hand and created three orbs, a red one, a blue one and a yellow one. "The Red orb represents Hell, the home of Demons and evil spirits. The Blue is Purgatory, the middle ground, and the Yellow is Heaven, or paradise if you prefer. Hell and heaven are composed of seven rings that act as their own private areas and only matter to purgatory when souls are moving. Purgatory, however, consists of an infinite amount of dimensions, worlds, universes, planets and planes. In essence, everything has its own place and should run like clockwork, however, both sides of the spiritual spectrum like to meddle." various colored dots surrounded the blue sphere. "This causes things to mess up, as souls bypass purgatory completely, and destroys the balance between the two. The One Soul is Incarnated into one of those worlds when that happens and stops the meddling. Back when everything was new, it could be solved with a rap on the knuckles and everyone would go home, but now things are harder as Demons and Angels simply have to spend a few Spirit years to come back, so the only way to really get rid of them is to either beat the crap out of them, which may cause more to appear, or ruin their plans." Violent thought a bit more. "Well, thats not exactly true now that I think about it, most of the time, you'll incarnate when the big boss thinks you need to. Big problems are mostly settled out of your reach." Zak nodded. "I think I understand... Im like... a spiritual handy man who gets alot of on the job training." Violent laughed. "I like that... yeah, pretty much. Its a bit more complicated, but this is as much as I can really explain from what the last one told me." He then got serious. "Purgatory is ruled by reapers, but the One soul lies out of our jurisdiction because he has his own job. The reapers follow the First, but most of the day to day stuff is handled by the Council of fifteen. Well, thirteen if you ask me, because two of them never show up. Anyway, they separated Heroes from Villains and religion from religion, thus keeping the peace." The scenery changed again. "Physical skills wont help the One Soul, however the soul dictates the DNA, and as such pieces of souls can be incorporated into your own, for a price." The Scenery seemed to form into a street market, with various people trading in a glowing substance. "Humanity is the presiding life in most worlds, and with enough of it you can buy anything in the afterlife. These are various creatures from all of creation, and will sell you things in exchange for your Humanity." Spotting the look on Zak's face, Violent laughed. "You can get it back when you rebirth, you just have to act human. So dont worry. Here's where I get off on this merry trip. You have no humanity right now, so here's a little starter set of skills you'll need- an eternal memory, expert reflexes, enhanced senses, and a Abomination eye." He dropped four lights into Zak's hand, and they fused with his flesh, but didnt hurt. "When you want to start your job, just head towards the light." Violent said, and faded out. Zak sighed and shrugged his shoulders. Wondering what Violent had meant, Zak looked around until he spotted a sign with an arrow, pointing towards a building called "The Light". Zak took a step forward and the world inverted.
