Whenever they run those mercenary hetero-normative valentine's commercials, I find myself following this thought process. 1. The commercial is claiming that if the man does not buy an expensive enough jewel/phone/flower arrangement/etc., his partner will leave him. 2. Clearly if the woman he is dating is only with him for the purpose of collecting expensive gifts, he would be better off without her. 3. Logically he should by her something very cheap and if she leaves, he can find someone actually interested in him.
