Within a year, we and the media will not remember Haiti's earthquake. Already the media does not remember Haiti's political corruption, the already rampant poverty, homelessness, and starvation MADE WORSE by the 7.0 earthquake. The politically stable, better-place-to-live Dominican Republic? Safe, apparently. No one's paying any attention to it.
So, all this money going to Haiti to help the people, HECK YES. GO FOR IT! These people need help, but more than earthquake relief. What happens next? What happens after the media moves on from the earthquake drama?
What is the country left with? Left like New Orleans, forgotten and wrecked? Or worse off then it was.
The UN has been in Haiti for thirty years, and most of the aid given winds up on the black market. All this earthquake aid now, to do any good, must rectify the entirety of Haiti.
Or else we're just not doing any good.
