What can be said about Nikolai Bellic? A bad-a** Russian soldier (retired) who's done some terrible things and still pretty much does. With "Red Army" skills as his friend Brucie states, Niko is on a hunt for two men who possibly set up their friends 10 years ago. He knows it was not him, so he looks for Florian Crevic (either has been entirely or just turned gay)(also known as Bernie Crane) and Darko Bravic, who simply isn't in Liberty City. Now if you didn't make Niko shoot cops and run for dear life all the time, you might actually have the capability to sympathize for this pour soul.
Niko starts out working for his cousin, Roman, who has been in deep s**t for a while. By doing some more jobs, you meet more dangerous criminals who become your bestest friends. And if it weren't for Niko's short temper and protectiveness of his family, he wouldn't have the connections he has. In fact, he'd be dead within a week. With characters like the "steroid-junkie" Brucie, the Jamaican, Little Jacob, the ill-tempered Mikhail Faustin, and double-crossing (more than once) mofo, Dimitri Raskalov. Not to mention biker, Johnny, and entrepreneur, Gay Tony (introduced in later versions of story). Oh yeah. Probably the most fun, the McReary family, whose involvment pretty much ends the game.
