She takes the nail and drives it into his hands
and he begins to think that cheating was a bad idea.
He begs and pleads but his cries fall on deaf
bruised ears and she hammers it further in.
He could sob and ask for forgiveness
but the look in her eyes tells him he can choke on his apologies
for all she cares because she did care,
And he threw her love back in her tear-stained face.
He tells her that he loves her and that it was a mistake
to which her response is to crack her hammer down on his left knee cap
and say whoops it was an accident.
He writhes and screams
but all she can hear is his panting breath as he slept with someone else
in their bed.
The bed where she gave him her heart and soul
for him to chew it up and ask for seconds.
She bites a chunk of flesh out of his shoulder
and he cannot believe that this is the same girl
who wrote him sweet poetry to declare her love for him.
She gnaws it lightly and the blood runs erratically down her chin
like soup warm and soft
that she laps up when she realizes it is escaping her mouth.
She tells him that this will be harder on her than it is on him
and his eyes well with tears as he suddenly realizes the enormity of the situation
as she draws a blade from her purse and shakes her head at him,
Her pretty blond hair shaking from side to side
and he knows that this is the last thing that he will ever see
as the love of his life slices from his stomach to his neck
and buries her face in his fresh warm blood
and she just wonders why
he had to go and mess things up again.
