I sat with you and watched the western sky set fire,
On a shore close to the city I knew as home.
I never thought I could love you,
I never wanted it this way.
And as the sun sank further into the waning day,
I let escape me all the right things to say.

Go on and take me,
I’ll give you all the things you want.
In the morning light,
This will all look different,
Hardly worth the fight.

Speak to me in poetry,
Paint me what you feel.
If the world stopped spinning
Would you believe that I am real?
