Prisoner
The Prisoner remake is every bit as bad as I expected it to be. Sir Ian McClellan was doing his best, but oh man. The think is completely lacking in atmosphere and has none of the surreal charm of the original. It is irritatingly Americanized. They have deliberately removed beloved elements, like the salute that goes with "Be seeing you" for no obvious purpose than to irritate people who liked the original. The main character has TV movie level acting skills and his superficial performance grated on my nerves. There is little in common with the original plot. It just didn't seem to go much of anywhere interesting and was painfully slow and boring. It's like they had a contest to see who could take a beautiful and complete work of art and transform it into the most bland, uninteresting, and homogenized product imaginable, and this was the "winner." No wonder they had to make it over Mr. McGowan's dead body. I kept checking the clock only to discover only a few minutes had passed. It's always a mistake to make a piece where the only remotely interesting character is the antagonist. I kept wishing 2 would give in so the whining would stop. I kept thinking of poor Sir Anthony Hopkins in Brams Stoker's Dracula watching Sir Ian. In both cases, it was clear that they were only people involved in the production who understood the original, and in both cases, they seem to be the only ones trying to make the project work.
