They reran the Chapelle Show with the Charlie Murphy vs. Prince skit. The Prince one fascinates me because of all the things it says about gender presentation and cultural expectation. I suspect one could write an essay about the layering of meaning in that story. It also an excellent piece of storytelling. I love that it's really a story where Charlie Murphy mocks himself for his own preconceptions. I love the surreal quality of it. I love that you can untangle the definitions of masculinity in it any number of ways. It fascinates me how openly misogyny and homphobia are wedded in it and how clearly it shows how messed up that attitude is.
