While reading the latest Patricia Briggs, I had a thought. It occurred to me how much depends on the Marrok. He's always in the background, creating stability, the rock on which everything else is built. Imagine if he were dead, incapacitated, or missing. OMG so much chaos and the main character's lives would suddenly be very uncertain indeed. In her place, I'd be so tempted to kick that prop right out from under them, but then, I'm a real b*****d.
