Hey all~ Just finished rereading a book Ebron sent me called "Speak" Id read it about a year or so ago but I never really saw the meaning as I did this time. Ive also just finished another book by the same author called "Catalyst" which was just as phenominal. Both books are 1st perspective girls 9th grade in Speak and 12th in Catalyst. Both are about their progression through a series of events too real for comfort. Through out both books I felt times when i just wanted to put down the book and never pick it up again. Both books left me with a profound silence and thought. Good reads I highly recomend. My summaries follow. Beware the spoilers.
Speak Speak is about a 9th grade girl named Melinda. During the summer before her 9th grade year she and her group of friends attended a high school party at which she was drink and a character named Andy (aka "It" wink raped her. She called the police, crashing the party and making her many an enemy. As she begins her 9th grade year she has no friends (as they all hate her for ruining the party) except for one preppy girl who moved to the school that year. Through out the book you see Melindas world and watch her struggle to find herself and her voice; To speak up about what happened and defend herself. Great book; 5 stars here.
((Too lazy to write up about Catalyst right now; Its 2am))
