It was after me.
I didn't know what it was,
Only that it wanted me.
I ran through the forest,
trees clawing at me and roots grabbing at me.
Branches scratched my face, shedding my blood.
This only attracted it more.
The more blood I lost, the faster it chased.
The faster it chased, the harder I ran.
The harder I ran, the more cuts I got,
And then we're back at square one.
An unforgiving root tripped me, and I fell.
A deep gash was now in my arm from a branch.
The flow of blood attracted it like nothing else.
I stoop up and tried to run.
I could feel it's breath on the back of my neck,
Could feel it opening it's mouth, ready to swallow me whole,
But I woke up in my bed, safe and sound.
There had been no creature, had been no chase.
I looked down at my arm anyway,
And there was a gash from a branch when I had fallen.
I thought it had been a dream, Now I'm not so sure.
