She was in the dark, alone, again. They left her alone, to take care of her self… again. She acted like an adult, and in truth, she really could take care of herself, but sometimes it would be nice to not have to. After all she really was just a child, a child that was forced to grow up, and sometimes she enjoyed being more mature than most, but she really was only a child.
Ever since that b*****d of a man came into her mother’s life, everything had changed. Her mother acted as if the world revolved around him, while the girl was forgotten. Her mother was always with him, he always came first, and it was always about him. That was when the girl started to fade, she dealt with so much, at school, at home, and no one seemed to care.
No one at her house noticed how tormented the girl was at school, her mother was too busy taking care of the man, and the man was too busy being a greedy pig. The girl was made fun of every day at school, but she put on a strong face and acted as if it didn’t bother her, and when she got home, she went to her room to try to forget. No one noticed the girl’s tear streaked face, because no one cared.
Months passed and before she knew it, it was the girl’s birthday. Finally, a day all about her, a day she didn’t have to fake a smile, a day people cared about what she wanted. The sun seemed to shine brighter, the girl was happy. Nevertheless, all good things must end, and her happy mood ended before noon, her mother yelled at her for some stupid reason. The girl was dragged back to her dark dismal reality, and once again, as the guests came and wished her a happy birthday she put on a fake smile, and thanked them half-heartedly.
Soon music and writing became the girl’s only escape, when she was writing she could be someone, anyone, else. When she was listening to music she could drown in the lyrics, and not have to face reality, even if it was only for a little while. People had always told the girl she was a gifted writer; she had even won awards for her short stories, and poetry. Besides that she had always loved music, and she was a very good singer, but no one knew that, or at least not until she joined her school’s chorus and got a lead solo, and preformed in front of the entire school.
The girl’s mother had great friends, and she loved them with all of her heart, but there was so much she couldn’t tell even them. As time went on the girl grew very pale, she said it was because she was never in the sun. And that was true, but there was another deeper reason, her friends knew the real reason the girl was as pale as the moon, and she had much less energy than she used to. The girl never ate breakfast, which was fairly normal for her age group, but what really worried her friends was that the girl didn’t eat lunch either, the girl always said the same thing, “I eat dinner, every day, besides I just don’t eat lunch on school days. Don’t worry so much, school food scares me that's all!” she always turned things into a joke to distract her friends, and every once and a while she would eat an apple just to prove she was eating.
The girl died when she was 16, the doctors couldn’t tell if it was from the drugs, cutting, or anorexia. All her close friends that knew her well said the same thing: “She just faded away, you could tell by the look in her eyes… She just didn't care anymore, she wanted to die…” They all knew the only way you could ever tell what the girl was feeling was through her eyes. The girls name was Serenity she was born on July 8th 1997, and died on July 22nd 2013.
