I was rewatching Ladykillers, as I was in an Alec Guiness mood. (In my house, Alec Guinness and Tom Leherer were staples. I suspect this says a lot about my parent's sense of humor. I still think Kind Hearts and Coronets is a very special kind of brilliant). I was thinking about how one never sees an old lady like that in movies these days. Her type went out with Hitchcock, I suppose. (Yes, I know LK isn't a Hitchcock movie, but I've always felt it was what a mid period Hitchcock comedy would have looked like and Mrs. Lopsided in it is a very Hitchcock sort of character. Hell, she's practically Hitchcock in drag). It's a little sad. I think I'll watch From the Horse's Mouth next as it contains my father's favorite threat ever uttered in a movie. "I'll burn down your house and cut out your tripes!" It's the implication of cannibalism that really sells it. How odd that it was an Alec Guiness movie that first introduced me to the idea of fetish. My poor father having to explain that to my twelve or so year old self. I was going to say something clever about lady killers, but alas, it slipped my mind.
