So! My mom and my sister came out for a visit last weekend and it was a blast. I missed them so much. But for those of you who are interested I thought I would give you tales of our misadventures!
First off! Once we got my mom and sister here, the first thing they got to meet was Granny. The old woman put on her southern charm and hospitality for them which surprised me because she makes a habit of being mean to her caretakers. (My fiance and myself) It wasn't long before the dementia kicked in and they got repeater stories as well the 'suggestion' that we take her out to dinner. Seeing as there was a special occasion, we thought it would be a good idea. We went to a nice Mexican place and it wasn't long before Granny antics happened. (aka the asking of racially insensitive quests around the people in question like, "Do Mexicans eat beans for breakfast?" And no...I'm not kidding. It's really embarassing. sweatdrop ) And also we can't forget her swearing over not getting wine. Doctor says no to her drinking. Since we enforce that she gets mad. The woman could drink my fiance under the table any day. Gotta cut back the roaming around without pants thing. Seriously, she belongs with frat boys when she drinks. That was the first night!
Second day happens! And true to Oregon weather it rained. Made for a pretty day Downtown but it kinda ruined our plans for the day. So we went to see Harry Potter and I have to say I wasn't disappointed! Granny was left at home after her episode the night before as well as she would talk and complain during the movie. The day was a great day just to kick back and relax while it rained.
Although, there was an incident where the girlies went out for a nice long walk and when we came back Granny had locked us out. ??? So rather than potentially causing a stir I figured we'd just go around back through the side garden to back where Pey and my room is located and come in that way...what I failed to realize was that the other gate to the garden opens from the other side and locks so who ever inside can't get out that way. So! That being the case, we trekked back to the first gate...which also completely locks on the other side. We were stuck in the garden. Seeing as all other options were out, I scaled the fence...which was old, waterlogged, and nicely grown with moss...I felt like I was climbing a deathtrap. jumping to the ground on the other side, I had the (mis)fortune to land on a bunch of semi-eroded cobblestones which threw off my balance (I expected them to be flat!) and fell back hard on my rear. It bruised for a day. But, I managed to get my family out without a recap of the rain and back into the house. I was rewarded with my valorous acts with giggles from my sister and hug+eyeroll from Pey.
The third day was a nice girl's day out. Pey stayed home with Granny while the rest of us went to the State Fair. It was fun to window shop and see all the demonstrations. Although I think the fun thing for us was to go to where all the animals were kept. We arrived on the day of the horse show so we got to see all the horses and chickens ( all of which were the size of computer towers. Seriously.) and of course...COWS! My sister, for some weird reason, kept mooing at them. I have to admit I responded with 'stop harassing my cheese.' We were there for most of the day and I have to admit it was awesome.
The fourth day was really awesome. We left for the Oregon coast while Granny was off on one of her outings with her Old Lady Friends. It was a partly cloudy day which actually made for a stunning view for a seaside lunch. We went to a very good resteraunt where we got a great view of the ocean, large waves, and lots of pelicans! Which we then took my sister to a local candy shop where they made their own saltwater taffy. If there was ever anything addictive it would be that taffy! You just can't stop until it's all gone! The really nice thing though was at the end of the day we packed up to my mom and sister's hotel and just lazed about in the hot tub for an hour. That was a nice end to it all.
I'm sure not everyone is interested in my family visiting but I thought it might be fun to share a few stories! Love you all! heart
