A NEW SCHOOL


Ever since I was five years old I knew I had special powers like I could turn on a light with a snap of my fingers . Well not exactly it takes a few tries but with some practice I could do it simple.

A couple months ago I found an ad for a ' Magic ' school I figured perfect what better way to train my powers . It turns out it is just a school for people who are into card tricks and illusions . Thats not gonna help me is it ?

Tommorow they are sending me off to the school . I 'll have to spend a whole year there, fun.

I walk into the doors of the school . The place I am going to have to call home . All around me I see people with cards . I knew I should have looked up some tricks , Oh well .

I see the school principal . I walk up to her . She looks at me and says " You must be Sarah-Lee Geroge. "

I hate it when people call me Sarah-Lee . " Sarah" After I spoke the one word I realized the tone I had used . " I'm sorry but I honestly prefere being called Sarah, Sarah Geroge. "

" Oh okay dear. " Then she continues her conversation with the man standing next to her.

I walk over to the sign in desk. The lady is asking for names and then telling people numbers. My guess is that they are the room numbers so I get in line. When I get to the front of the line I tell her my name before she has the chance to ask.

She smiles and says " Six fourteen. " I smile and she hands me a small silver key.

I walk down a hall of rooms. Six ten , Six eleven , Six twelve , six thirteen and then finally six fourteen. I turn the knob to find that it is already unlocked. I open the door to find two girls sitting on the floor playing cards.

The girl with brown hair turns around. She has beautiful green eyes. The color of emeralds. " Hi, I'm Melody and this is Sabrina. "

Sabrina has dark dark brown hair. Well actaully I think it's black. HEr eyes are also green.

Sabrina waves. " Now finish the trick Mel. "

Oh so they weren't playing cards they were doing tricks.

Melody sits back down. " Sarah , you can join us if you want. "

Sabrina nods " Ya come show us what you got. "

Crap busted. I was only here for like five minutes and I am already busted. I was hoping to go at least a day. So I think of a lame excuse. " I don't have any cards. "

" Yes you do there are three packs on your bed " Melody says well pointing to the bed on the far side of the room. " My mom works for a card company. " Melody flips the cards to show that they are all three of hearts.

" Wow that's amazing " I sit my stuff on my bed and pick up the three decks of cards. One is pink , one is green and the other one is blue. The blue deck looks slightly different.

" Not not really the blue pack in your hands does the same thing. But I think it's with the jack of diamonds " Melody starts to pick up the cards.
" I'll show you If you'd like. "

" Okay. Sure. " I sit down next to Melody and open the blue deck.

" First you show them that is iy a normal pack of cards then you hit them like this " Melody hits the cards. " now all of them are the same card."

" Okay now what ? "

" You get them to pick a card. After they pick the card tell them to put it back . Then random cut the cards in five places. Each time it will be their card.Then just flip them. " Melody flips the cards and they are all three of hearts again." Then just remember to hit them again. Now you try. "

" Okay." I do the trick following and the steps and to my surprise it works . When I flip them they are all jacks of diamonds. Then I change them back .

" Good I told you it wasn't hard. " Melody gets up and goes over to her bed and lays down.

There is a knock on the door . Sabrina gets up and opens the door. A grey haired women steps in.

"Good afternoon girls. I'm just here to see how things are going and to tell you that lunch is ready. "

Melody , Sabrina and I all answer at the same time " Thank you. "

As soon as the grey haired women leaves I turn to Melody and Sabrina. " Who ws that ? "

Melody gets up from the bed. " That was Mrs. Elliot. "

Sabrina nods in agreement. " Let's go to lunch. "

I quickly follow Melody and Sabrina . We go down half a dozen hallways before we get to the lunch room. When we get there we go to I table with food on it. Where I get an apple , a salad and a chocolate milk. We sit at the nearest free table.

A few minutes later a blond haired boy sits next to Melody. " Oh hi my name is Alex. "

" Hello I'm Sarah. "

He puts his hand out so I can shake it. " Nice to meet you. "

I shake his hand and smile " Same here."


The rival

I practice my magic whenever Melody and Sabrina arn't around. Simple things like turning off the lightd to lighting candles. I can do both perfectly now.

The door opess and Melody sits her head in. " Sarah , classes are starting soon. " Melody points to the clock. " You don't want to be late for class on your first day of classes. "

" Okay. Coming."

When we get to class we find out that we are the first people to get there. The only other person in the room is Mrs Elliot. " Where's Sabrina ? "

" She's probably eating. "

" Oh okay. "

A girl with long brown hair enters the class room. There is a set of twins with blond hair following her. She stopps in front of me and Melody. " Oh who is she? "

" Hello , my name is Sarah. And you ? "

" Roxy. And this is Bess. " She points to the girl on the left. " And this is Victoria. " SHe points to the girl on the right.

" Oh can they not talk for themselves. " Sabrina smiles and then sits down.

Roxy looks at Sabrina then smiles. " Oh good morning Sabrina. "

" Roxanne you can cut the act everyone here already knows your a spoiled brat" Sabrina stares at Roxanne.

Melody grins. " You forgot selfish. "

" Your right Mel. I did forge selfish "

Roxanne turns bright red. SHe opens her mouth to say something and then closes it again. She flips her hair and then turns around and walks away.

After math a have science.My science teacher is Mr Roberts. He is a nice middle aged teacher that explains things well.

" So how was your morning ? " Sabrina asks me at lunch.

I was in the same math class as Sabrina but as for science and social studies I'm on my own. " It was good. "

" Cool. What do you have after lunch. "

" Art , Tecnology and Japanese. "

" I didn't know you were taking Japanese. "

" Ya. My grandmother was Japanese. "

" oh cool. "

" Where is Mel ? "

" That's a good question. I Haven't seen her since social studies. "

" Well I hope she didn't get into trouble. "

Sabrina bursts out laughing. " Mel in trouble. "

Later in art Melody explains that she was in the art room talking to our art teacher.

" I love painting. " Melody says with a smile. " It's so fun. "

I love art. it's an easy A. " Yes , it's quite fun. "

Sabrina rolls her eyes. " I prefere Tec. "

After having act and tec with Sabrina and Melody I have Japanese by myself and I have no clue where Japanese is. SO I ask some random girl in the hall. " Ummm .. excuse me but do you know where Japanese is ? "

The girl smiles. " I'll show you . I'm going that way anyways. "

" Okay thanks."

I sit through a long lecture about Japanese and culture thren finally it is time to go. Mr Yuki says " Oyasumi Nasai " as we leave class which means ' good evening '.


A new start

I get use to everything and that's when it all changes. Everyone is called to the lobby on the Saturday of our second week of school. " What's going on ? "

Sabrina shrugs. " I have no idea "

Mrs Oaks begins to speak. " Due to the problems we have been having with the dorms we have no choice but to change the rooms. Please pack up your stuff and come see me for your new room assignment. "

I honestly wish I could she my face. "What ! "

Melody answers my question " We are changing rooms. "

" Ya I got that. Have they did this before ? "

Melody and Sabrina switch glances before shruging.

Ten minutes later I walk into my new roo, and see two twins girls who are in my Japanese class. " Hi , I'm Sarah , well Sarah-Lee but most people call me Sarah. "

One of the girls turn around. " Hi I'm Sakura Matsumoto and this is my sister Maylin. "

The next morning I wake up kind of late so Sakura and Maylin are already up.

Sakura smiles. " Ohaya Gozaimasu Sarah-Lee-san "

I smile too. " Ohaya Gozaimasu Sakura-san. Ohaya Gozaimasu Maylin-san " In Japanese adding san to the end of the name is a sign of politness.

" Hi Mel , Hi Sabrina " I take a pause " Can Sakura and Maylin my new room-mates sit with us ? "

" Ya sure. " She smiles " At least you don't have to share a room with Roxanne. "

" I feel bad for you " Melody laughs " I have to share a room with Victoria and Bess. "

I smile. " So who is your other room-mate Sabrina ? "

" Amber , you know the one from math. "

" Ya, I know she is also in my science class "

Just then Roxanne and friends walk up to our table. " Hello roomy " SHe says smiling at Sabrina. " Hello Sarah-Lee . Hello Melissa. "

Melody rolls her eyes. " It's Melody. "

" Ya whatever. "

Victoria pokes Roxanne. " Can we go get food now. "

" Okay , lets go. " And with that they walk away.

Alex sits down. " Hi girls. "

" Hi Alex. " Sakura and Maylin say at once.

" You guys know eachother ? "

Alex smiles. " Yes we have social studies together "

" Oh cool. They are my room-mates. "

" Sweet. "

" So who are your new room-mates Alex ? "

" Ned and Chris. "

" Cool. " I don't really know them. But I think Chris is is my social studies class.

The festival.

" Are you going to the Japanese festival with us on Friday ? " Asks Sakura from her place at the table.

" You should it's fun. " Says Maylin.

" We have school. "

" They let Japanese students out of class if someone picks them up "

Maylin nods. " Our mom is taking us. I'm sure she wouldn't mind if you came too. "

" Okay sure I'll go "

Sakura gets up and walks over to her closet. " We are gonna need Kimonos "

Later the same day I am standing in front of a mirror wearing a pink kimono with pink flowers on it. Maylin and Sakura get the same ones but in different colors.

When Friday finally comesI put on my Kimono and Maylin does my hair. For the first time ever I actually look like a Japanese girl. I could get use to this.

Sakura walks in holding a camera and starts taking more pictures. " You'll thank me later. "

Five minutes later we are sitting in the office waiting for Mrs Matsumoto. Mrs Matsumoto is a beautful women with black hair just like the twins and baby blue eyes.

Mrs Matsumoto smiles at me. " You must be Sarah-lee "

" Yes that's me "

" It's nice to meet you Sarah-Lee-san "

Maylin holds out the camera to her mom " WIll you take a picture of us ? "

Mrs Matsumoto takes the camera and then takes a feew pictures of the three of us. And then we are on our way. Ten minutes later we are at the festival. It looks amazing. There are so many colors everywhere. It's the most beautiful thing I've ever seen.

They give you a flower for your hair as you enter you festival. The flowers are the same color as your Kimono which means : Green for Maylin, Blue for Sakura , Purple for Mrs Matsumoto and pink for me.

Sakura helps me put mine in my hair.We have fun until night fall and we take tons of pictures including a picture of the three of us under the stars with beautiful lamps behind us.


The test.

After Japanese I realize that I'm locked out because Maylin and Sakura are going to see their grandmother in the hospital. I turn on my heels and start walking to the office when I get a good idea. I turn around and place my hand on the door. I focas all my energy on opening the door and then after about ten seconds the door pops open. I love magic.

On Monday we get the marks for our tests back. I only got a ninety-nine because I made a really stupid mistake.

Roxanne comes up to me at lunch. " So what did you get on your math test ? "

" I got a ninety-nine. "

" Haha I got a hundred. " She waves the test in my face. " Who's the dumb one now. "

I start to get really angry at Roxanne. For one I never called her dumb. I never even thought it. She is the only person who could possibly do better then me. And even so I'm still smarter then her. So only got one percent better and that is because I did something stupid.

" Talk about a dumb blond. " Roxanne walks away. " Guess what Amber I did better on the math test then Sarah-Lee. "

The anger builds up inside me and the next thing I know Roxanne's test in on fire. Opps did I do that ? I look around the lunch room and not many people seem to notice Roxanne's test. And the ones that do don't know me.

Later in Mrs Oaks' office Roxanne blames me for something, well for something I did do but still. " Sarah-Lee did it I know it "

" Roxanne I was nowheres near you when your test caught on fire, how could I have done it. "

Roxanne rolls her eyes at me and then faces Mrs Oaks " Shes just mad because I did better on the math test. "

" You only did one percent better then me. ANd that is only because I made a really dumb mistake. "

" So it's still better . "

" It's only one test. "

Mrs Oaks decides to but in. " Girls stop it. Roxanne I don't know what happened to your test but I'm sure Sarah had nothing to do with it. "

Magical three

Christmas break is just around the corner.The three of us are all just sitting around trying to think of something to do when Sakura gets an idea. " I think we should look for the box of Ellenia. "

Maylin nods. " We should. "

I shrug. " It would be nice to know what's in there. "

" Ya I know what you mean. Me and MAylin grew up hearing stories about the Ellenia's. "

" Ya now all we have to do is find the box. " Where would a magical box be ?

Maylin stands up and starts pacing. " The box was hidden like sixty years ago. "

" So where would someone hide it ? "

I start tapping my fingers on the desk. " It would have to be somewheres that hasn't been touched. "

Sakura nods. " I wonder if the Lasin borad could help. "

Why didn't I think of that. " But wouldn't people notice the random beam of light. "

Maylin rolls her eyes at me. " We could get around that. "

" Ya we could use it at night when everyone else is in bed. "

" But we aren't allowed outside at night. We could get in so much trouble if we get caught. "

Sakura cuts me off " Calm down Sarah-Lee. We would make sure we didn't get caught. "

As long as we don't get caught. What if we got caught they might kick us out. So many questions so little answers. " Well let's not look until after Christmas. "

I'm staying at the Matsumoto's for Christmas because my dad is still in Ontario . He's doing something for his job there. He didn't say what exactly just that it was important and he was sorry.

The next morning when I wake up Sakura and Maylin are having a conversation.

" Maylin what should I get Sarah-Lee for christmas. "

" I don't know. "

" Have you gotten her a present yet ? "

" No net yet. "

" Maybe we can get her something today. "

" Ya we should "

At lunch I'm sitting all alone because Sakura and Maylin are gone for the day and Sabrina and Melody are currently missing.And that's when Alex sits with me.

" Hey " he says sitting down.

" Hey. "

" You looked lonely."

" I was, I can't find Melody or Sabrina. "

" Maybe they were taken by aliens. "

I laugh. " Maybe. "I like Alex and by like I mean like like. He is one of the nicest guys I've ever met.

I finally find Melody and Sabrina after lunch. Apparently they were in the art room. " You guys I think I might like Alex. "

Melody gasps. " I never would have guessed. "

Is it really that easy to guess. Who else has guessed. Does ALex know or think I like him. IS that why he sat with me.

" So what are you doing for Christmas Sarah ? "

" I'm staying with Sakura and Maylin. How about you ? "

" I'm not doing anything specail. "

" Oh have fun. What about you Sabrina ? "

" Same thing as Melody. "

" Oh funnnn "


Li Matsumoto

I walk into the Matsumoto's beautiful house. To see a black haired boy sitting in a chair. He doesn't look nuch older then me maybe a year or two.

Sakura notices me looking at him. " Oh that's our brother Li. "

" I never knew you guys had a brother. "

Maylin smiles. " He's a year older then us. "

The next morning I hear another conversation between Sakura and Maylin but this one also has Li in it.

I hear Maylin first. " Okay you know the story about the box of Ellenia. "

" I've only been hearing it my whole life. "

Then I hear Sakura. " Well we are gonna figure out what's in the box. "

" And how are you gonna do that. "

Then Maylin again. " Sarah-Lee is part of the Ellenia family. "

" Oh " Li says surprised. " When when you guys find out tell me okay. "

" We will. " Maylin finally says.

Later that day we are all sitting around talking about how we are gonna find the box. " So we are gonna use the Lasin board at night. "

Sakura, Maylin, and Li all answer at once. " Yes. "

" If you don't people will see. " Li adds.

" Ya I was thinking about that when Sakura thought of it when we were at school. "

Sakura gets up. " Sarah you are gonna need a lot of magic to open this box. "

" Ya I know. That is what I'm a little worried about. "

Li looks at me and then turns to his sters. " PErsonally I think she is powerful enough. "

Li is being really sweet and nice to me and I just met him. He kinda reminds me of Alex. " Soooo Li do you have any magic. "

" Yes my magic is like your I can do basically anything. Of course you can probably do it with more force. " He smiles.

I love Li's smile. " Cool but the best I can do is unlock a door. "

" Maybe I can show you some magic later. "

" Ya maybe. "

Sakura smiles. " Just don't turn me upside down. "

" You mean like this. "

" Sakura is suddenly upside down and laughing. " Ya I mean like this. "

That is when I notice a huge spider. " Spi-spider "

Li moves his hand over the spider and it's gone. " Is that better ? "

" Ya thanks. How did you do that anyways ? "

" I just waved my hand over the spider and focused on it disappering. "

" Oh I'll have to remember that. "

" It would come in handy if your afraid of spiders. "

" Yes it would. "

A Japanese Christmas

We work all morning, folding paper swans baking a cake and other stuff to prepare. Li and I use magic to help because magic makes everything easier. Althought there are things I would never use magic for like tests for example.

I love this time of the year. It's actually my favorite time of the year. Exspecialy this year which is a special year. I'm celebrating CHristmas the Japanese way this year. Even though I'm half Japanese this is the first year I have celebrated Christmas this way.

I've never put paper swans and small toys on the tree, I've always put bulbs. I've never made shortcake and chicken for the meal , I always had turkey and chocolate cake. I guess this is probably because my dad isn't Japanese. This year I'm spending Christimas with people I have only known for a few months while my dad is off traveling.

At Christmas dinner I listen to Japanese stories , not all of them Christmas stories. And that is when Mrs Matsumoto starts telling one of the Ellenia stories. " I seriously wonder what is in that box. "

Mrs Matsumoto looks at me puzzled . " You don't know "

" No I don't. Should I ? "

" It was suppose to be passed down. Your mom was suppose to tell you. "

" Well. My mom died. When I was five. She never even mentioned the box or even magic for that matter. "

" Maybe she was waiting until you were older. "

" Ya maybe. " Why did my mother hide it from me. I mean magic. " May I be excused ? "

" Yes dear. "

I get up from the table I begin walking to my room. When I here Maylin say " Ya she didn't even know about the box until me and Sakura told her. "

Then Mrs Matsumoto says. " I guess no one will ever know what is in the box. Unless Sarah-Lee's grandmother tells her. "

Thats when I turn around and yell " NO ONE IN THE WORLD KNOWS WHAT'S IN THAT BOX BECAUSE MY GRANDMOTHER IS DEAD TOO. " Then I begin to run to my room.

" Then I guess it's a secret. " Says Mrs Matsumoto quietly.

" And maybe that's how it's suppose to be. " I say to myself.

I close my door and walk over to the bed. I sit there and cry. I don't know how long I cry maybe a half an hour, maybe an hour, maybe more. When The door opens I tell them to go away without even lifting my head to see who it is.

Why would my mother hide it from me. She knew about it, there is no question about that. She decided not to tell me. Maybe she thought that I wasn't magic. I didn't know I was magic until it was too late,too late to do anything.

I know I shouldn't blame myself for my mother's death but sometimes I do. I was there I could have did something. If only I knew I was magic sooner.

The next morning it is Christmas.No one mentions last night. No one mentions the box. No one mentions magic.Sakura got me a braclet. Maylin got me a shirt and my dad got me a few books and some clothes. He also gave me two hundred dollars.

Li hands me a small box and smiles. I open the box to find I beautiful necklace. " Thanks."

The girl I never knew

On Sunday morning it is time to go back to school whick sucks but on the plus I get to see Melody and Sabrina again. Which is great because I haven't seen them in almost two weeks.

On Friday morning everyone is called to the lobby again. I look at Sakura and Maylin and whisper" What do you think is going on? "

Sakura looks at me, at Mrs Oaks and then back at me " No clue. "

And thats when Mrs Oaks starts her speak " I am sad to inform you that there was a large fire in the east wing of the school and part of it burnt down. "

That is terrible. Wait the eadt wing " Sabrina. "

Maylin gasps " OMG Sabrina's room is in the east wing ? "

I nod.

Sakura looks around the room " I don't see her. "

" Before we panic lets see what Mrs Oaks has to say. " Don't panic. Don't panic. Don't panic.

Mrs Oaks continues. " I'm sorry to say that one girl died in the fire. "

A girl died ? Sabrina. I look around and can't find her either. " I can't find her ! "

Maylin looks like she's about to cry. " Sarah can't you bring back the dead "

" Maylin you know very well that you can't bring the dead back. Remember when Li tried. "

If Li can't bring the dead back then I have no chance of bringing the dead back. Li is way more powerful then me." WE don't even know if it's her. "

Sakura suddenly smiles. " It's not "

Maylin looks at her sister " How do you know. "

I follow Sakura's gaze and I see her " Because she's right there. " My heart starts to slow. " Let's listen now. "

" The girls name was Emily Brown. "

The twins both gasp and begin to cry.

" Who's Emily Brown ? "

Sakura wipes her eyes " She was our neighbor. "

" And now she's gone "

"We were good friends. "

" She's the one who told us about this school. "

I can't help feeling sad, I begin to cry. I'm crying for the girl. The girl I never knew. " I'm sorry "

Sakura is crying again " I can'y believe she's gone. "

Later at lunch everyone is sad.

Melody's face is wet from crying. " She was in our Socail studies class. "

Sabrina nods.

Amber walks over to our table " Can I sit with you guys ? "

I nod " sure. "

Amber smiles. " I have no else to sit with now that Emily is gone. "

" Well your welcome to sit with us." Alex smiles at Amber. " She was in the same french class as Chris, Ned and I. "

Dud everyone know Emily but me ? It sure seems like it. It is always sad when someone dies even if you didn't know them. Since my dad is still in Ontario I will be staying at the Matasunoto's again until they fix the esat wing ! Not that where us everything wrong with staying there but that are all gonna be sad. Plus I'm really starting to miss my father, it's like he's gone out of my life.

I pack for the Matsumoto's. Using magic of course. " So when's your mom coming ? "

Sakura looks up, her eyes are still red from crying. " At two."

I look at the clock. It's one twenty-nine.

At the Matsumoto's we find LI sitting on the couch. I decide to sit next to him. " So did you miss us ? "

" No not at all. So did you guys find the box yet ? "

" Not yet. We didn't even look "

" Oh I see. Dp ypu have any ideas on what might be in there ? "

" Nope. I wish my mom was here to tell me. "

" Ya I know what you mean, sometimes I wish my dad was still around. "

" Sometimes I wonder how things would be different. "

" Same here. "

" I didn't even know about my powers until the day my mother died. I was crying and I made it rain. If only I found out before I could have did something. "

" Don't blame yourself it wasn't your fault. "

" I know but I can't help but thinking I could have did something." By this point I'm nearing sobbing. I haven't talked about my mother's death in years.

Suddenly a tissue appears in Li's hand and he hands it to me.

" Thanks. "

Sakura enters the room " So what are you guys talking about ? "

Maylin enters the room also. " Why are you crying ? WHat did Li do ? "

I wipe away the tears on my face. " I'm crying because I'm thinking about the day my mother died. "

Magic.

"Focus, focus " Li keeps saying in his sweet voice.

I'm trying to make the glass of water on the table come to me. So far no luck. I focus a little harder and the glass starts to lift off the table.

" Woah " Li says surprised

I really don't think he's talking about the glass " What ? "

" Look at your fingernails "

I look down at my fingernails to see that they are a light shade of blue. A couple seconds later they turn orange and stay that way. " Woah. "

" Have they done this before "

" No I wonder what it means. "

" No clue. "

Sakura enters the roo and sits next to me. " WHat are you guys talking about ? "

I look at my nails that are now red. " My nails. They keep changing colours. "

Sakura looks at my nails. " Cool. "

The next morning we go to the market. Little did I know we weren't going to a normal market. We were going to a magic market. That only magic people can get to.

Sakura looks at the shelf then turns to me. " They don't have the book I want. "

" Oh well we can always come back. "

" I guess. We could come back next weekend. "

" Ya we could. "

When we get back to the Matsumoto's it is lunch. I sit at the table and make myself a sandwhich using magic. That way I don't have to get up. Have I mentioned I love magic ?

On sunday we get ready to go back to school ... again. " Bye Li. "

" See ya. "

By Monday everything is pretty much back to normal. My nails still change colours though. They were normal all moring and at lunch they were red. I'm currently sitting in art and they are normal. " So what are you guys gonna paint ?

" A tree "

" A shoe. "

I give Sabrina a weird look. A shoe out of all things. " Cool. I think I'll paint a flower. " I begin with the yellow middle making it a purfect cirlce. Then I paint bright pink petals. I finish it off with a thin light green stem.

Melody looks over at my painting. " Wow Sarah that's really good. "

" Not really. I wasn't even trying."

" It's amazing. Sabrina look at Sarah's flower. "

Sabrina looks over. " Wow Sarah "
