Another parade, another rant. July 1st is Canada Day (like Independance day 4th of July, or Bastile day in France, or any other country's national holiday) Parades, picnics, fireworks are all the order of the day, Except here in Quebec. where even our federal governments are so scared of offending the radical seperatists that either the events are toned down, or outright cancelled.
The city's main parade, along the downtown core's busiest street was a joke, as usual. in a city of 2,000,000 people, maybe 5.000 showed up to watch. Another 10,000 went to the "old Port" for other festivities, but it still had 10% of Quebec's "Fete Nationale" or even the St. Patrick's day parade, WHICH ISN'T EVEN A FRIGGIN' HOLIDAY! There is something intrinsically wrong with a city scared to celebrate a national holiday because the seperatists would be offended. Christ Almighty! we of french ancestry LOST THE WAR. The only reason we still have French and Catholicism, is due to the generousity of the Brits. Can anyone imagine the US of A being held hostage by black or hispanic seperatist factions. The gov't would declare martial law and shoot them all for treason!
Ah well, so be it. The important thing is I showed my Canadian pride, and thatès what matters to me.
