Well, I'm not...exactly...Christian, so I was kind of put off by bands who sang about Jesus Christ all the time. EXAMPLE: OhhhhhOhOHhh JESUS SAVE MEEEE, SAVE USSSS!!! <-- or whatever.
Not to be offensive, but it's kind of annoying -- gospel music and all of that.
So anyway, I was randomly looking up 'screamo bands' on google images(hence, my username) and I came across a picture of several guys in really tight, bright red pants and black shirts. So I clicked on it -- hey, it looked interesting -- and I learned the band was called Showbread. Yeah, wtf...it already put me off. So I got one of their songs, entitled, "Dead by Dawn", assuming this wasn't Christian. It was pure screamo, just how I like it, and it had an interesting feel to it that I really hadn't heard before. (after all, there was a keytar, who doesn't love that!!)
I found something interesting about this band -- their most recent album (as of 6/12/09), called Anorexia/Nervosa, has a whole written STORY to it that the singer wrote! I found this different and exciting, so I'm planning to buy the cd. Just cuz I like having cds. You can't show off an mp3....
So the basic story is of two sisters, Anorexia and Nervosa. (Each's story is on a different disc) The songs are the same, except in different styles. They meet people along the way (the same people), encounter troubles....and finally reach God, or the Lamb. So it is religious indeed. But don't let that scare you off. "Dead By Dawn" was actually a tribute to their fave horror movie -- so they must not be too strict. If you want, you can just listen to the screaming and the minor guitar chords and the keytar and be happy. I've never heard of an actual story being made with songs accompanying it. I find that creative.
So here's a picture of Showbread: smile
